Default Best "mid-priced" esc?

I have decided to upgrade my electronics step by step, until i get reliable qulity parts all over the bird.
Earlier today i ordered a new motor, a Hyperion HS-3026-1600 that looks promising =)
Next plan is to order a new esc, but i have problems deciding what to get...
I want to get away from cheap unreliable stuff, and get a working gov.

Have been looking at the CC Phoenix ICE 75. It has good specs, and an enormous amount of users. But recently CC have got a lot of problems, but as far as i understand, itīs only regarding the HV series?

On the other hand we have aligns original esc that they ship with the 500ESP, but i guess its not as good as the CC?

Any tips and hints on what to get? The pricerange is up to ~150$, so kotronic and so on is out of the picture.

/Tobbe

The CC ICE 75 has had very very few issues that I'm aware of. It is by far probably the most popular ESC upgrade for the 500. I've been running one on mine for hundreds of flights with the Hyperion 1600 motor and it works great.

Anyways, the combustible problem that CC is having has been with the HV line of esc's. I wouldn't hesitate to by another LV one.

The CC is the better choice unless you want to use the Gov feature of an FBL controller. In that case the Align or Hobbywing ESC's are better.

The LV Castle have had issues as well. Not very many..but it has happened. If you are looking at the ICE 75...buy the ICE 100. Its a few bucks more, you will never need to worry about running that kind of power on the 500, If you go to a bigger bird-your set! If you decide to put a scale fuse-your set! I see no reason to limit your options for a few bucks. Just my 2cents.

The governor in the Align esc is indeed crap. But Deet said "unless you want to use the Gov feature of an FBL controller". He meant that if you go with a FBL unit like the Vbar you can use the Vbar governor with the Align esc which works outstanding.

Not all FBL units have governors for electric though so it wouldn't work with say a 3G.

And if you do go with a CC ICE esc make sure you do the throttle claibration when you install it.

It will work with the 3Gx, and BeastX is rumoured to have a Gov on the way.

+1

I agree, mine has been terrific. And I love the data logging capabilities too.

Aloha,
Les
