Default HELP!! HeliFreak Pin Drop Map version 2.0--Find a member near you!

For viewing only: Click-->> HeliFreak Pin Drop Map v2.0

(This is what happened to version 1.0, in case your previously placed pin is gone or misplaced: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=746741)

Have you ever wanted to look at a map with pin drops of HeliFreak members? I have!! I always thought it would be cool to be able to just pull up a map and be able to see who might be close to you. So, I figured out a way to do just that!

It's super easy to use as well! The map is searchable by HeliFreak username as well as any location. Go to where you want and you can see what pins are near you!

Just as a disclaimer, you are in control of where the pin goes! It doesn't have to be on your house, your street or anywhere. I totally understand that some people enjoy some sort of anonymity, so feel free to choose somewhere near your location, or maybe on the field you fly at, or club you belong to! The idea is just so that people have an idea if there are other members in their general area. Even mine is just the general area I currently reside in.

Also available to use and view is a similar map of Italian pilots that was put together by HF member Urgno. Here is a link to the thread with that map!!

http://rcdreamsitalia.forumfree.it/?t=72662111

Here is how it works:

To have a pin added to the map:

****While I would prefer GPS coordinates, I can take a street address as well. If you want to do a street address, proceed directly to step 6.

The following is for anyone using Google Maps on a computer. (mobile users scroll down)

1. Go to google maps: https://maps.google.com/

2. Find any location that you would like to place your pin.

3. Click on the location once, and you will get a small grey “pin” in that location. It looks like this:

4. At the bottom of the screen, you will have a box pop up that has a location name (address or area) and a set of GPS coordinates in it. It looks like this:

5. Click on the GPS coordinates in that box. The map will zoom in and on the left hand side of the page a search box will pop up with those coordinates in the search bar. It looks like this:

6. Copy those coordinates and place them in a post here in this thread. Include the following:

- Let me know if you already have a pin on the map, but it is in the wrong place.
- The name you want me to put on the pin (screen name, flying field name, etc..)
- The GPS coordinates you copied from Google maps, (or anywhere else you may have gotten them if you had a different method). Or a street address.
- Any other additional information you would like included in the data field for your pin, like your RCHN Ciitzen numbers etc....
- If you would like, I will add one of the following icons as your pin as well, tell me what you want.

7. I will place your pin and info.

Mobile users:

You have a few options. I am sure there are more, but these are the only ones I know.

Option 1
Get the GPS coordinates from whatever app you prefer, and include them as per step 6 as above.

Option 2
1. Click on this link--->>> HF Pin Drop Map

2. Find the place you want your pin to be.

3. Long tap the location and a pin will drop. Looks like this:

4. Tap the address at the bottom and this screen will pop up. Tap the “Share” button.

5. Tap the copy button:

6. Paste it into a new text message:

7. Now, you see the part I have highlighted in the pic below? The URL. Copy that and put that in a post here on HF that includes the following:

- Let me know if you already have a pin on the map, but it is in the wrong place.
- The name you want me to put on the pin (screen name, flying field name, etc..)
- The URL you got from the text.
- Any other additional information you would like included in the data field for your pin , like your RCHN Ciitzen numbers etc....
- If you would like, I will add one of the following icons as your pin as well, tell me what you want.

Already pinned the map but the N.E. appears to have been deleted.

EDIT:
All pins have been moved to a single location.

My mistake, it appears all who placed pins have been moved to a single location on the original map.

My thought is you only need the true locations and restore them.

Best of luck with it

My pin is "toadiscoil" and is now located somewhere in Durham?!?! So my pin still exists and needs to be moved. I tried the instructions but seems like I have no permissions to drop pins so I cannot place something to get the GPS coordinates. If you can just move me to wherever is the center of "Mount Pleasant" on the state of Wisconsin, that will be fine.

Or, I used an alternate method to use Google maps to fetch the GPS coordinates:

42.7124277,-87.9396605

Also the SWARM Flying Field (the club I intend to join next season) is located at:

42.8580881,-87.9990741

Finally, the club I will be joining this season, the RRAMS Flying Field

42.5781388,-88.9452942

NOTE: If someone else is having the same issue, just go to Google maps on your browser and type in the address or overall city direction you want. Then when it appears, use the Share link and a popup will open. Go to where you find the "@" symbol and you will get two long numbers separated by a comma, then a LOT of more text. Just copy/paste the first numbers after the @ like the ones I have pasted above.

This was all covered in the OP of this new thread.

Thank you for the new coordinates. I will be working on fixing this in a little while.

Thanks. I misread your OP at first but using the "Share" button is an alternate method to clicking the GPS coordinates per your instructions. I think your method may be easier and is nicely documented with screenshots but being old school the second method felt more natural to how I use Google Maps.

Anyways a big for your efforts.
