Default YEP esc's for the 550X

Hi all,

I'm looking to make a move to a 550x, and with the announced problems with the stock ESC, I'm looking at alternatives.

What's the view on HK brand YEP ESC's?
I'm looking at the 120A or the 150A. They're both just over $50.

I guess the better question would be, anyone had problems?

Flying the 120hv since the release of the 550x. No issues at 6s or 12s.

General consensus is that they're pretty good. Occasionally hk sends out a dead one, but that's hk for you.

I don't know myself but I am gonna maiden a bird with the 150A. If it doesn't burn up, that'd be great
will come back to report.

Look forward to it, I was aiming more towards the 150A myself.

Good luck!

Default hv

YEP 120HV is a good deal at +0- $100.00 gives you the option to go 12S in the future (it handles even 14S). They get a tight fit but In found here at HF the template to make a mount piece. The ESC performs great, the helis feels very powerful, I will test 15T pinion too.
Credit goes to r44flyer, thanks a lot.

How do the YEP controllers compare to say a Castle 120hv or 130? I'm buying my 550x soon, and I'm having trouble deciding which to go with

My friend flies the castle, I was flying the yep. Governors on both are pretty decent, the yep has active freewheeling which is a big plus if you don't always run near full throttle, way less heat buildup. I have no heatsink on the yep.

The castle has logging which is very nice for flight analysis.

Keep in mind that the yep is wider than the frame and you will need to either mount if more forward on the rather flimsy plastic mount or do some custom mount.

In the end at $90 the yep was a good choice

If you're sure you won't exceed 6s the cheaper lv one could be an option. Narrow. Fifty bucks. As always get the prog card, and um... if ordering from hk, I am a lazy sod... maybe you might like one of these.

If I get this bird I'll stick with 6S, save 12S setup for my future 700, whenever that is.

For 0.55, I think I'll buy that with the ESC

Thanks all for the help.

Ok, I didn't blow my heli up

Still have to do more shakedown flights, only had one pack soldered up and I will be busy all weekend, but I found on my YEP 150ALV, active freewheeling and gov were off by default. Thus, if you get one do remember the prog card unless you are happy with what I found which probably is default. However I *think* my YEP45 came with normal gov enabled. That was a while back...

Like my prior YEP 45, this doesn't beep like a YGE when you calibrate gov store.

It fits nicely into the fore mounting plate in the nose of my X5 - the frame of this heli is quite narrow plus I also needed as much mass afore for CG reasons.

That lazy cable I got because I am going to be messing around programming a lot with the v bar gov and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

In all honesty, I will likely replace this speedie with the real deal but for now it will keep me going.
