Have given heli a test fly.

Sunday cp flyer. Can do basic manouvers like loops and rolls etc.
Never learnt 3D, would like to. Sims make me motion sick, doesn't help.
Maybe this heli will help me overcome that problem. I can beat it up trying and it won't cost the earth.

I setup heli according to manual I received with it, including throttle and pitch curves.

Normal mode

Tried in 6 axis first with 70% rates on ail and ele, 30% expo.
First attemp heli took off hard left and crashed, no damage.
Added 50 points of right ail trim
2nd attempt lifted straight up, but felt like i had no control, heli went forward quickly, just pulled it up before hitting wall. Back it went, quickly, smacked chair hard before i could stop it. Canopy came of, and battery came out of tray but no damage.
Switched to 3 axis and turned rates and expo off.
3rd attemp, this transformed heli. much better control.

Going to try 3 axis with some rate and expo.

First thoughts, I'm impressed. I like it.

edit: Had the bug all my life. have been flying rc planes for 40 years, rc helis 10 years. Hangliders and ultralights 20 years

The Genius is the newest Walkera product. I think they are just describing that Walkera is improving their products since they do have other heli's with a similar design. So they are just saying they are doing better.

I mean... if it was really different, I should be able to tell just by looking at it, and it does not look any different then what I have.

The link also said "2012 Edition" which got me thinking.

But yeh, you are probably right, that crossed my mind also.

Had to ask to be sure.

Hmmm... I don't see anywhere on that page/link that mentions 2012 edition. It's still 2011, so I don't think anything labeled 2012 would be available now as far as an RC application.

OK my flying videos posted in the first post. I will also post them in this post so you don;t have to go back to the first post.

OK I did a BUNCH of flying and tuning this weekend on the Genius CP. However I had new guys running the camera and they had a hard time staying on this little heli. I wound up taking 2 takes using 2 different camera men. I am going to show both videos. So sorry the videos are not as good as I would like to show you but this is the best I could do this weekend. I think they are good enough to show you what this heli can do.

VIDEO -> Genius CP - Flight Eval Take 1 (77 Megs)

VIDEO -> Genius CP - Flight Eval Take 2 (114 Megs)

Stay tuned. I will be doing a video on updating the software of the Devo 6, a look at the new canopy, etc.

I thought you're not supposed to use any trim with FBL helicopters?

you will find a link that says:

"Walkera Genius CP - 100% In Stock Now. 2012 Edition"

The only thing different would be its a brushless edition motor then. And that is just the main motor, it would still have the same tail brush motor and blade.

I actually stumbled that off WowHobbies site. Didn't realize it did say 2012.

Seems like a nice little bird. Thanks for the vids, and its nice to finally have some really good experienced input and advice on these Walkera's, that I wish I had on the V400's when I got them. Thanks Bob.

i like the idea of using the mcpx battery, which battery/ size is that? where can i get the parts to make the conversion harness? is there any drawback to running the bigger battery? im guessing the bigger battery should only be used with the brush less version?

I have 1S batteries from my V120D02, which are 600mah. They work, but too heavy. It will actually hover, but with the stock motor, you can hear the strain on the motor bogging it down. It weighs 15.3 grams. The original 200mah weighs 5 grams.

I'd say if you have at least 4 original batteries, that's still 12 mins of practice you can do. Just not sure if its really a good idea to use a bigger battery since it was designed to be extremely light.

Default bind and fly

It would be great if Walkera would make a bind and fly version compatible with futaba's fasst system.

That is actually what I am waiting for. A MCPX size flybarless heli that works with FASST. I don't want to keep buying transmitters and don't want a cheap toy one. I already have a very good one (8FG Super). The good news is it keeps money in my pocket instead of having to explain to the wife where it went .

Futaba should be contacting Walkera about making this happen. I realize horrizonhobby would not allow it so the MCPX is probably a dead end as far as FASST. Then again... Walkera wants to push their transmitters too. I guess if Align ever comes out with one us Futaba users will finally get to play too.

I would be great to have a universal TX that would work with any product.

But I don't think that's gonna happen.

Since Walkera is my main brand... Why can't spectrum be compatible with Walkera TX?

I think we as consumers... will be stuck to own both, even though this hobby works on the same... principle in order to fly.

Yes it would be great if the different manufacturers would actually agree on one set format they all could use, but fat chance of that happening, each manufacturer is keen on keeping their own protocol and suing the but off each other for the slightest infringement, don't forget the biggest court case in recent history of the hobby was when Ripmax (Futaba) sued Horizon (Spektrum) when the first spectrum Tx's came out, lucky for spectrum they could prove prior use of the technology, in remote control car locks off all things

Great Vid Bob, Europe has some very strict radio output rules and that is probably why the 10mW output is also there, How many languages are in the V2 upgrade, I know last time I upgraded from V1 to V1.6 then the French and German language was added, but that was on the 12 the 6 may be different.
