Clear coat for Prepainted fuselage?
Hi,
I've bought an HeliArtist fuse and I'm quite ready to put the heli in, but the fuse hasn't clear coat. It's my first scale build, and it's also the first time I want to do some paint job. I've a small airbrush and a water based clear coat. Do I have to sand the fuse, even if there are some stickers on? Please give me some tips... Thanks!

If the fuse was shipped as it is shown in the pic, then I wouldn't do anything to it at all. It is probably painted with a fuel proof flat paint and will be fine without any type of clear. If you have your heart set on clearing it anyway, you don't want to use water based clear. You need to use a good automotive grade 2 part clear so it will be fuel proof.

Hi Brian, thanks for your answer.
The fuse has not been shipped has shown on the picture, there are not the rivets and the paint is flat, and I have let some fingerprints with my dirty fingers... So I think that there is no fuelproof clear on the fuse. Do you think that I can use the water based clear that I have?

Waterbased clear will not withstand nitro (or anything else for that matter). I am guessing that you have something like auto air transparent base, which is a seal coat for fine artwork, not a protective coating against the elements. The only way to be sure that the paint is protected is to get a 2 part automotive grade clear coat.

and to keep it that millitary look, get a can of flattening agent and ask the store for a recomended mix to get it flat, semi flat or what your after. If you don't and you put 2k clear, it will be glossy like a new car.
You will want to lightly scuff this with grey scotchbright before application and a clear adhesion promoter wouldn't hurt
