Default ICE 2 ESC....160A vs 120A

I was accidently sent the "lite" version of the ICE 2 160A HV ESC with a combo deal that I just received. I contacted that seller, and they are doing the right thing and replacing it for me including postage.

However, I have the option of getting the 120A version instead of the 160A. I think this would be a better idea, as the 160A is significantly larger and heavier than the 120A version, and there is no need for the larger current rating. Do I have this right?

What motor are you running? If you are going to run a big 5000watt monster you want the 160.

I have the 4035-500 a 4000 watt motor and the 120 is great.

I ran that motor flying hard with my 700E for over a year on a ICE 80HV with no problems, Bert Kamerer also ran a ice 80 HV for some time on his 700E flying way harder than me with no problems. This was before the 120 was available, the 160 is HUGE and more like cargo on the bird.

so a 120 is plenty for any motor IMO..

+1 I wouldn't use a lite, no heat sink. Even with a hole in the canopy for air movement..

Agree, do not use the lite version, even if the esc is on the back of the bird. they are not really a good design for heli's. You want to keep your esc as cool as possible.

Default 160

Get the 160 its worth more, will run cooler and is more efficient. That little bit of weight diff will be taken out by the higher efficiency.

Personally, I would get the larger one just so you're not on the limit. And will be better if you run a more powerful setup in the future.

The mx I'm running is rated at 6600 peak. I'm running a hv80. Logs say I never spike more than 95A. My cutoff is at 130A I'd say minimum hv80 but 120 would be best.

I have used both on my x7. The 160 runs cooler for sure. The weight difference is not a big deal

I was also worried about the extra size, since I haven't seen any other guys using it. Is it a tight fit up the front of the heli?

Thanks,
Harrow.

There's plenty of room up front for the 160 on the X7!

The 160 has been good but we have some other team members running the 120 and flying it HARD with no issues. Save a couple of bucks and enjoy the 120 is my .02 worth!
