Tail control input deteriorates on spool up....
Hey guys,
I'm having a rather strange issue with my 750. On the bench the tail functions great. Also, the gyro compensates in the correct direction. I noticed though that on spool up when the helicopter gets light on the skids I suddenly lose almost all tail input. It also seems like the gyro doesn't compensate for the torque. I noticed this when the helicopter abruptly torqued while still on the ground. Luckily no damage occurred. Any suggestions? Thanks! Justin |

I just ran into this same problem. Mine turned out to be a loose lock nut holding the tail blade grip to the hub (GAUI X4II ). Someone else reported they had the same problem and it was a broken brass slider bushing in the pich slider for the tail. Drove me crazy for a while simce everything was fine until spooling up. I almost crashed trying to diagnose.

Hmm interesting! Glad you figured it out. I didn't get a chance to really look at it because I had to go out of town. I'll look again when I get home, but I'm really not sure what it could be Thanks man!

Did you ever get this one resolved?

Man I never figured it out. Thought it may be a bent tail shaft cause it was slightly bent. I replaced it and it didn't help. I am absolutely boggled as to what it could be. I even put a brand-new 750 on that I had laying around and it still does it, so that tells me it is something mechanical or in the servo. Hobby Services replaced the gears in the servo several months ago and I wonder if something else is messed up inside. My helicopter sat around for quite a while and I just recently started messing with it again. I can't remember if I started having this issue after I upgraded to version 1.4. I wonder if there is a setting in the 750 that somehow limits tail rotor input as head speed increases. I have looked and have not been able to find anything.

Pretty sure my issue is servo related. I know it's not an issue with the tail mechanically cause I can actually see the tail servo stops moving full travel when the head speed increases. As soon as the head speed slows I regain full tail rotor travel. I even tried a brand new CGY 750 I had laying around with v1.4 and it still did the same thing. Could this be a bad tail servo? Hard to believe a $200 tail servo with only a year and half of use could be bad. Maybe so though...

Man would you believe I had the exact problem you did?! Ended up being one of the tail grip bolts that was loose. The centrifugal force was causing the pitch link to bind. I guess I just never noticed it cause the bolt wasn't backed out all that far. |
