Did you plug the short servo type cable on the ESC into the box or did you plug in the long one? You have to use the short one.
What you're seeing there is the firmware version for the box itself, which appears to be current.

on the "choice" box. click the down arrow (pull down) and see what software choices appear.
Mine would only offer 1.62 even after downloading the Turnigy upgrade. Also make sure you click the " device" tab to alternate from Program Box to ESC

If this is a HW 70HV, there are two cables coming off the ESC in addition to the battery wires and motor wires: the long one goes to the receiver for throttle control and the short one is the programming cable.

So I figure I'd post this as a warning to others not to be as dumb as me.
I got my hobbywing updater box. I hooked it up, and I did the upgrade. I swapped the motor wires at the same time. Now somewhere in this long thread I read all the way though, I'm sure it said to do this, but make sure you reset ALL of your settings again. I went to test motor direction and the heli spun 180 and the blades knocked into the blade grips. It had reset the ESC to normal start. I was just barely spooling it up luckily, so the blades survived with a little dent in each one where the blade grip hit. THEN... I had decided to test the governor out. Well the governor didn't work worth a darn. it didn't matter what I set my idle up curve to, it was 2400 rpm at any percentage over 60. So at the field I reprogrammed it using the beep menu, and I turned the governor off, but it would still peg the throttle at 100%. I got home, plugged in the programming box in, and sure enough, the governor was off. I hit the apply button again, and tested it in the yard, and it was still cranking 2400rpm. I flashed the esc back to 1.05, and then again back to 1.07 and it got the governor to stop activating. Strange. So Now... My blades went out of track after the fast spoolup, and I can't get them dead on. I checked the spindle by removing a blade and turning the bolt, no wobble. It's like I need a half turn on a link. Not a super great day with the 6hv.

^^ yes I noticed the box needs ALL the parameters checked if you make a single change.
... anybody figure out why some of us can't upgrade beyond v1.05 (ESC) ?? even after the Turnigy download

Hello everyone,
I need help updating my HobbyWing 70HV ESC to get the true soft start. I have this HobbyWing Program Box and I follow this thread to get the Turnigy USB Link. When I open the Turnigy USB Link V-1.62 interface, it can't see my ESC. So of course it doesn't have the option to choose any firmware version to select for update. When I install the HobbyWing USB Link V-1.4 that came with the box, it can see the ESC, but only offer V1.02. So I went to HobbyWing website and download the HobbyWing USB Link V-1.64. From this interface, it able to see my ESC and it offers 4 version (V1.06, two V1.07, and V1.08) to upgrade. My question is: Which version should I update my ESC to? current version is 1.02 It is ok to use Hobbywing USB Link? Has anyone using version 1.08? Thank you all, |

I fly a HW 80 amp platinum on firmwareversion 1.09.
The only thing I haven't figured out is the setting in Gov-mode. It seems to set the throttle always at about 2380-2400 rpm. Someone else using this firmware-version?

The governor on mine would always spin 2350 as well. The worst part is that it wouldn't turn off until I flashed the firmware to a different version and back again.
Once again I vote that this thread becomes a sticky!!

I posted a question about this at Hobbywing.
I will post the answer as soon as I get it.

Just an update, after some more reading, I decided to give the governor another shot. I set it to 61%, and it spins 1950 or 2000 depending on how it wants to spin up. The headspeed is steady when it's running, but changes between spoolups. At 63% it was near 2100. It's much better with it on, the motor runs cooler and I have no bogging, even under 2000 headspeed. So now I have no hard kick and a working governor, so I'm very happy.

got a bit lost along the thread here .. so hopefully someone can get me on the path again to getting a decent softstart.
I have the HW 70 and the HW 2 in 1 programing box - both new. stock HW usb link soware (1.6.4) is working, it shows a software version of V1.07_110119 for the 2 in 1 itself. it shows V1.05_090905_U for the esc version. with no other options. I downloaded the turning usb link (1.6.2) it shows an upgrade option for the esc for V1.07_100506_U. Edit: Going with that version, lemme know if that's not the right one.

I have been trying to figure out this HW 120HV to get the soft start to work , but I think this ESC has a problem !! it does not seem to take any changes I make via the box or TX sticks or updater ....
the box has the V1.07 110119 version the ESC has V1.08 101106 the "apply" key is not active so I can't update anything , I do have it powerewd up (packs) short wire to the box ... I REALLY need this soft start to work for my E7,,,, cheers
