Default Sorbothane ?

Has anyone ever tried Sorbothane for vibration reduction?

I've got some to test with and the material claims to reduce vibration by a fairly impressive amount.

I've got some 50 Durometer material .25" thick.

No, it sounds like something Michael Jackson would use. I occasionally use tequila with very good results, converts all vibration to the soft swaying movement, but it's terrible for flying, I'm afraid

Seriously, it's just a polyurethane rubber, same thing the original 3M sticky pads were/are made of, I think.

FYI, if it matters Sorbothane is NOT a good material for this, but I'm sure many of you knew that would be the case.

It is very obvious that the SK-720 was moving in some kind of harmonic.

The vibration G's were oscillating very rapidly between 0.3 and 12.

My guess is that the unit was rocking and as it compressed on either side the vibrations got worse and then as it rocked back the vibrations were damped out.

I think this may actually have some good vibration dampening capabilities, but use in this application would require refinement in its application.

I've just switched from the stock foam to 3 layers of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-60-Sco...item35bb7f5671

with very good results, vibes a little higher but not enough to deactivate SL, also feels loads more locked in in tic tocs etc

mkovalcson,
We have to figure out this damn TDR. I have to turn the headspeed down so low to not get a red-green flashing light that the helicopter feels like a dog. I got one of Rob's V-Bar sandwich mounts, and I'm going to try an Align PU gel>SK-720>Zeal sandwich (was taoY's idea).

Actually my TDR is flying GREAT! Did you see my last vibs at over 1700rpm. I'm not getting vib alarms at any rpm's that I'm flying right now.

See below? No vib alarms

I made a comment to Groucho that it seems the TDR breaks in after flying it a while and the vibrations drop on their own.

1700 RPM is too low for my flying style. It feels very lethargic in the air.

I ran a vibe spectrum log today on my last flight, and it looks like my Pyro 520kV motor is the primary source of vibes. I posted the log on the Henseleit forum. I think I need a new motor. Which motor are you running?

I'm also using a Pyro 700-52

NRPY, check if you have ANY axial play in your shafts. Especially the intermediate shaft. When I removed my motor to send it to Kontronik, I found that a 0.1mm amount of play had somehow sneaked in, which, I am thinking, could have contributed to the elevated vibes at higher headspeeds.

I'll know for sure when I get my motor back...

In any case, my vibes are amplified when the tail is attached, so there's probably something there too...

I ran motor only bench tests at three different headspeeds. The vibe magnitudes ranged from 7.5-10. I think these motor only vibes are too high for a properly balanced motor with good bearings. The motor isn't the entire cause of the vibe issues, but it looks to be a significant contributor.

Maybe I'll throw my HKIII 4035-560 in the TDR and see if it changes anything.

Have you ran a "motor only" bench test (with the pinion backed away from the drive gear)? I'm curious to see what your Pyro's vibe profile looks like.

This is what my Pyro looks like.

A good motor will have vibrations around 1 or lower, yours needs new bearings.

I've sent correspondence to a motor winder in Germany regarding rewinding my Pyro for more power and if they can do it, I'll have them replace the bearings too.

That looks almost identical to what my motor-only vibe log looked like, and that's why I sent it to Kontronik...

You could have sent it to GMauro and he could have souped it up to the level of a Black Edition for you

I'm still perfectly happy with my Pyro in stock form, but I'm not seeing the vibs you guys are seeing either.

I'm also not stick banging my TDR and it seems very responsive at moderate head speeds.

I've got a lot of learning to do before I'll be ready to harness a 4525 Ultimate or something that powerful.
