the wind was blowing really bad(about 20) in my back yard. so many have said the wind doesn't bother it too much. you were right. i spooled it up, and brought it to a hover. by far, this is the easiest helicopter i have built, and the easiest to fly. all i could do was hover in my back yard, but it was just so stable, it had such a good feeling to it. it had a little tiny wag. my gain on my GY401 was set to 75%. but in GOV mode, it went away. st2 was set to 65%. when the wind dies down, i'm going out to a farm field, and see how it really flies. the motor was warm to the touch, as well as the esc after a 6 minute hover on true rc 22.2 volt 4000 mAh packs. i'm charging/balancing them now.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED ME BY ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS.

Good to here its going! It is very nice to fly. I am was going to sell mine as i wanted more power but after turning gov mode on it like new again! I has more power through the flips etc as it keeps the RPM up.

Hope all is well, give us an update when you fly it more

Good for you! I really like mine. It is a nice size and doesn't require as big an investment as a 600 size machine. I thought I might enlarge mine when I built it but Not anymore.

in the picture where i'm holding my 550, look above my right shoulder at the vinyl siding. see the hole? i did that with my gaui 200. no more practicing on the porch.

i ran two packs through it after work today. i must say i am very happy i bought this heli. it is a total blast to fly. it handles better than my 200, and my 450. i did some stationary flips with it, and she just seemed to float in the air.

Yeh It flips so well, i thought when i learnt to flip it didn't have enough power as i could flip without losing altitude on my E620SE but turns out it was my crappy collective skills.
Now i can flip the E550 so easily and not loose height.
It was my first "real" rc heli and it holds sentimental value.
Its a keepa for sure.

loops? ummm .....soon, very soon. this heli is a confidence builder. i know what happens if i get over confident. besides, i'm still breaking in my packs. i was just blown away by the ease of flying it in figure 8's and landings and take off's were a breeze. i would definately say this is a great heli to learn on.

Nice to hear that you're enjoying this bigger heli, congrats

Which 450 heli do you have? How does the stock E550 compare to your 450 in term of cyclic and elevator response?

i have a trex 450 sa, with a sev2 head. the trex is slower than this heli. such a huge difference. i am actually running the ds821's in it, and still seems to be quicker, and more responsive. p.s. i've never tried cf blades on my 450

You should get the green paddles and move the balls on the washout arm to the outer holes.

Did you use the 11T pinion or the stock 10T one?

stock everything, except i moved my tail servo to the boom. the tail is amazing on this thing

i'm not ready for the red dampers, or the light paddles. not yet.

pack # 32...my first crash. it was the best flight so far. i think i might have gotten a little over confident. i was flying it back towards me, and i went to bank to the left and lost my orientations. i was only 10 feet off the deck, so no time to hit throttle hold. i'm looking forward to rebuilding it though. i'm still over joyed at how easy it is to fly.

damage control report...skids, boom, blades, flybar, flybar control rods(hoops), double links, blade grips(balls tore out), main gear. everything else was inspected, and both the spindle and main shaft were rolled on glass. also, my pinion slid down the shaft and i noticed i can pull the whole case off of the brushless motor now. i did not notice that before. i had it up against the bearing.

i should have it up and running by next weekend.

Sounds like the usual stuff, i am suprised no bent spindle.
Both times i crashed my motor pinion slipped. The Z motors can be pulled apart (be careful sometimes shims inside) so they need the pinion up against it. You'll have to pull the motor out and re-fit the pinion.

thanks man. already did that. a little over 130 bucks worth of damage including the blades. i will back off a little on the agressiveness. lol it rolls and flips really nice. i've been running 8 packs a day through it.

i got my heli max cf blades today. they did need balancing, but for the price, they seem pretty stiff. anybody else tried them?

hi,

thank you for your reply in the build section.

Sorry about your crash. You're right, confidence in flight is something I must be aware of

Happy flying & greetings from overseas,
Dietmar

the helimax blades are very thick. they don't seem to fly nearly as good as the G5's i had.
