Default 500 Conversion

Just some observations here when doing a flybar "conversion" to flybarless. For some reason the 500 head and 3gx is NOT in kit form so all the pieces have to be purchased separately like the 3gx unit, blade grips, connecting rods, head block etc. Because of this there isn't a start to finish manual to install by. I can tell you I would really get P.O.'d when guys would post that they had no problems when there were hundreds more posts with real head scratching problems. I'm not at all adept at writing manuals but here are a couple of starting points that I should have taken BEFORE I started wrenching on my 500 conversion.

1. Get the manual for your heli with a 3gx system. It goes through the entire setup and if I can do it, anyone can. (trust me) Also, look at the build and compare the cyclic servo installation to the one on your flybared heli. It can be and usually is different in regards to the servo arms. I forget that we're using gyros on 2 more axis and they need to be treated much like a tail servo.

2. If you've got a DX7 TX and you're using sat's the very first thing is in the model setup page to set AUX2 to GYRO. This will add a page to the main menu called GYRO SENS. It's there that you can set the rudder gains to any of the flight modes.

3. On a flybar to flybarless conversion moving the balls on the servo arms in (in my case a Trex 500esp set from 19mm to 13mm) went a long way in stopping any wobble and bouncing. I'm using the DS510 servos and at 13mm with 12 degrees of pitch and roll there's no binding or the ball hitting the case. When I installed the 3g on my 600N I automatically installed the smaller servo wheels that came with the 3g kit, not thinking what it did for resolution hence no problems with the 600 3g.

4. Start with Leon Luke's settings if you want and adjust from there. He's the bomb - and thanks for his input.

The 3gx is a killer unit and like most problems (and crashes) it's human error. I hope some of you guys can add to this or do what Align should and create a start to finish conversion manual much like a new build. I don't know if this should be on the 500 thread only but I came to this thread for some great advise so here's my $.02

You make a valid point, I used the RJX head for my 500 conversion and the manual for the 3GX from my 550. I think you can use the manual in the 3GX software to do just about any heli, with a little help it can be done.
