I was wondering the same thing. I have the 430XL and 35X esc. I ordered a 12 tooth pinion, but am wondering now if I will have too much gear to be running the cheapo woodies!? Maybe I need to order an 11 tooth...

What cheapo woodies are you talking about? Align pro woods and tech model wooden blades can handle the 12T fine. It's recommended to lose the woodies if you go 13T.

For now, I am going to use the included Copterx baldes, and the three no name pairs that I got from helidirect. They are the exact same that came with the heli. I think the package advises not to go over 2400 RPM or so.

I will upgrade the blades in due time, but wanted to start with the cheapies, because I know I will trash them quickly, and I don't want to worry about breaking pricier ones in the beginning.

Motor:
Align 430L 3550KV

The 430L will consume a lot of amps with a 13T pinion, and shorten flight times.
The 430L will be quite warm at the end.
A 13T can possibly overload the Align 35G, also. And that, becomes a crash.

Be sure to use a pitch curve ~ 10% less than the throttle curve.
The Heli will be more stable.

If you only learing, the 11t probably give you around 2600rpm ok for flying I guess and you will have more run time and cooler battery. The 13t will give you around 3200rpm which is nice for 3d but will run your battery hot and shorter run time. It all depends on what kind of flying you want to do. Of course, fly within the tolerance of your battery and electronics.

So, I am running the 13T pinon with the Align Pro Woodies on the 430L motor. I have not noticed any problems at all. Heli is very stable, probably due to high head speed. Should I consider changing to the 11T pinon that came in the kit until I am comfortable enough to get some carbon blades?

I might be missing something, but I thought when you decreased pinion size, your headspeed get slower making it less stable and quick? Wouldnt that mean that your heli would feel worse?

mmm not sure but i think is like this:

"drive your car at 30 mhp and make some fast turns............then try it at 60mhp" You will see that the car will act with more sensitivity and fast due the high speed" lol or maybe im smoking too much

IMHO there is no need to do that. I was running the 13T with the 430L, 35G ESC, and Align Pro woodies for a couple hundred flights. The person I bought the heli from probably put a couple hundred flights on it before that. I did put the Align heat sink on the motor to keep the heat down, but otherwise had no problems with motor, ESC, or blades.

If you want the HS and a comfortable flight, add expo to everything. I took some tips from some of the more advanced pilots. They run 13t with 30% expo. I gave it a try and it made a world of difference in my abilities. I had not considered going inverted as I felt like I didnt have enough control added 25% expo and 10 fligths later...my first inverted flight. It gave me alot more control over my flips as well.

Good to hear. I like how it handles right now, dont want to change it. I have the heat sink on too, since day one, and I'm getting 7 minutes of run time with the batteries at 3.75 per cell afterwards. Works great for me! I don't fly in "idle up" yet which will be my concern when I am at 0 degrees and 90% in the future. Did you fly in idle up for those couple hundred flights? Or at least, a good bit of them?

well tested on the field today.11T gave me almost 10 min of flying!!!!, which is 3.5 mor than the 13T pinion, for me is amazing, cause i can practice the 8īs a lot.
