Hi,
after testing 5 systems in 9 months, I finally found one that works really well! But first let me comment the setups I had: 1. Original: 600XL & Align 75A ESC: cheap; power OK, but governor not usable. 2. Upgraded to Kontronik Jazz 80-6-18 ESC: Good governor but 600XL got raher hot now. 3. Upgrade to Kontronik Tango 45-10 motor: Good overall Power, but now my 6s packs smoked. 4. Upgrade to 10s setup with Kontronik Tango 45-07 motor and Jazz 55-10 ESC: More power, very consistent head speed, but the Tango got rather hot; finally bonging of a magnet failed, causing the motor to block. The motor was repaired by Kontronik for no charge(!!!) 5. Upgrade(?) to NEU 1515-2Y/F: A lot of headspeed, but bogging as well. Heli felt heavy when flying and ESC shut down due to overtemperature. Bad bearings. Maybe this was the wong NEU for 10s. And now finally 600CF; TT, FULL BLING Radix 600 9252 on Swash; 401 & 9254 on Tail 2 X 5s 3200 Polyquest and 2 X 5s 3700 SLS ZX Packs. CSM CL1 eCCPM on Board 5A UBEC KONTRONIK Jazz 55-10 ESC PLETTENBERG Orbit 30-12 Heli Expert Motor: Weight 3390 & 3480 Grammes, depending on battery pack 17 T pinion Throttle at 52% and 65% governored. Gyro Gain at 43% and 40% Comments: The bird feels lightweight again and flies very well. I have two head speeds: 1950 and 2150; the system can keep them very consistently. The temperatures after 5 to 6 minutes 40plus Style 3D is very moderate: 35° Centigrade for motor and ESC and 35° for my bigger packs and 40° for the 3200 mAh. I think; I will stay with this setup except I’ll get rid of my flybar in the next months and swap to a VSTABI system. .

Scorpion 4025-890 on 10S 3300mAh
Motor: Scorpion 4025-890
Battery: 2 x 5S 3300 Zippy-H from hobbycity ESC: Castle Creations 85HV Power: Enough Current in hover is about 25 amps at 2200 RPM headspeed. Peak currents running +/- 11deg of collective produce about 85-90 amps. I found that heavy collective use kept voltage above 3.3V per cell and that headspeed didn't go much below 2000RPM. Power peaks regularly hit around 3000W. Flight time is set at 4:00 minutes and i put back in about 2400 into the packs or 73%. Packs come down warm, but not abnormally hot. They run cooler than my old 6S setup.

what about duration?
I been browsing thru the posts. Is there any setup that will give you duration. four minutes is not enough. I will also like to see pictures or a how to put all this together (hint hint Bob). I'm back in the U.S. and flying sites are all over. I love my T-Rex 600 but four minutes is just a warm-up. I flown gliders way longer than that. Again guys, someone guide me or post a link. I'll settle for 10 minutes of flight. After going electric, don't miss the clean up or the noise or better yet the engine tuning.

Good simple setup
My setup that works well and uses only one 6S battery.
Trex 600 ESP with stock everything. Stock align regulator with 1900mah 2S lipo - gets around 6-9 flights between charges. Align 610 cyclic servos - very fast and powerful for the price Gy 611+9256 combo - rock solid at 400$ K&B tail rotors - good Radix 600 stick bangers - balanced out of the pack and plenty of "Pop" Scorpion 4025-1000kv motor on 15T pinion - good power but not like others I've seen. CC 85HV - set to govornor mode at 85%, plenty of options and I love the castlelink software. I do need to update though. I have the october release at the moment. Turnigy 35C 5000mah battery - on 6 cells it gets pretty warm at the end of mild 3D (tic tocks, piros, FAI FFF moves etc.) put back 3800-4000 depending on how crazy I get on the sticks. Overall Impression: Simple (no series connectors) and easily balance charged on inexpensive 6S battery chargers. It does take almost 2 hours to put back 4000mah on a cheap turnigy 50W that only goes to 2.2A even though you put 5A as the charge rate. Icharger 250W will charge at true 5A and puts in 4000mah in just under an hour I will be going to 12S though (6S 2p turnigy 3000mah in series) and will charge on parallel at the field and balance charge at home. I'll be selling the scorpion 1100 for 630kv to do this due to fairly warm battery packs and would like to extend the longevity of the packs. I have noticed after 50 flights now that the 35C batts just don't have the "umpffff" that they used to. I would recommend 40-45C setup for anyone wanting to use 6S for harder 3D! Hope this helps! |
