How many poles in all 3 Mini Protos motors?
OK this thread is to help anyone in the future looking for how many poles in one of the Mini Protos motors. I am trying to setup my Skookum gov and for the gear ratio I need to know the motor pole (for the 3S) to work it out. Thanks to another member who helped me I know it is 10. But I figured more people would be trying to search for this for wither the stock or 4S/6S motors. So please post here

If you go to scorpion site. The 3s motor is a hkII 2221-12, the 4s motor is a hkII 2221-2010. The 6s motor is special made for protos. Incidentaly the new 2520-1360 scorpion powerhouse for 6s is 10 pole also |

You get a lower Kv by adding more magnets, given that the stator design remains the same. Makes sense the low Kv motors would be 10 pole.

Maybe we should have a sticky with all the motor info:

Just the info I was looking for, didn´t think of looking on the Scorpion website My 3S motor has slightly damaged strands plus I don´t want to use this motor with 4S as it puts a lot of stress on the esc or drivetrain.
So it should be possible to rewind a 3S 2580kV motor to 4S 2010kV? Both are 6 poles with 9 stator arms, 2580kV has 12 turns Delta, 12 strand 0,21mm wind; 2010kV has 16 turns Delta, 10 strand 0,21mm. Only difference could be that the 4S uses different magnets. Has anyone done this before or more info on the magnets used?

+1 to a sticky.
I had to do the same search when I was setting up my governor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As far as I am aware of, the only difference in the version 2 motors is the cooling fan versus the original. I can't find any specs on the original versions but I doubt the cooling fan provided another 130 watts on the new version. Where did you get the 400 watt rating from for original version. Seems unlikely to me.

Scott, Here is the link
http://www.heliguy.com/Extras/Brushl...ion-HK2221-12/ click on summary tab and hover over the 'more' icon. You will find that the max power is 400w versus 530w for version 2. and it seems to have a cooling fan too.

as far as I know the 3s motor is good to 600 watts max peaks.
I found this spec sheet for the different hyperion motors which ars pretty much the same as scorpion motors. http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/hs/hs-spec.pdf if you look at HS2221- 2580 specs max peak is 600 watts at 51 amos 400 watts is the max continuous watts at 38 amps |

Got an answer back from Scorpion and indeed the cans of the 3S and 4S motors are identical, leaving the only difference to the windings. So with a rewind you can convert from 2580kV to 2010kV and vice versa. Nice project until the weather gets better!

Will post a how to eventually, but the method will not be very different from this nice thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1555628 The nice thing here is that Scorpion was so generous to publish all relevant infos: turns, strand gauge and winding scheme, so there is no need for target kV calculation or testing. One thing to know is, Scorpion seems to use a different method of counting turns, so 12turns/slot equals 6turns/stator (or 16=8 for 2010kV). I should be able to find out by unwinding the current config. As seen in the linked thread stator insulation is of concern (you´ll burn your esc if there is a short between windings and stator), but as I´m starting with a working, non-burnt motor the stock insulation should be fine. As I rewound some tiny mcpx motors already I can state that the process itself is pretty straightforward as long as you take your time and test the 3 phases for shorts. Apologies to the OP, but as his question was already answered I gave in to my tendency to post off topic
