dont think anything will replace it in the near future. its good good of a radio and too popular still. its the best bang for the buck radio out there. i just sold mine for a 18mz. it will do just as much and more then most others

They still sell the 10C and that’s twice as old as the 14SF.

The newer Futaba radios like the 14SG get continuous firmware upgrades and improvements so I don’t really see the need for a new one.

Exactly what hardware improvements would you make if you were redesigning the 14SG? I am very happy with the one that I have.

My main complaint with Futaba is the crazy high cost of telemetry add-ons. They need to be more competitive. That’s the reason that most all telemetry users have gone to the FrSky Taranis.

I ran across a post sometime last week that said something about an 18SG model.

Yes, there is an 18SG model on the cards but it has been delayed with Futaba playing catch up on their 4 ch car radio home market.
I don't have any new eta as yet but will see what news is around.

That sounds expensive. What will it be able to do that my 14SG can’t?

The new model will be the 18SZ and will be presented in may or probably at the hobby expo in Japan 23-25 of April

It should have the software of the fx-32, have a color touch screen and probably around $1100 for what I have read.

I just went though all of this when I bought a new TX a week ago:

14sg looks like a great radio, but in order to have telemetry you must purchase a fasstest RX which is $100, then you still need to wear headphones or do some sort of speaker mod.

The 10j does most of the same stuff, and you can get a $60 RX that does telemery, but you still need the speaker mod.

Neither does MAH consumed without purchasing third party sensors or adapters.

So while futaba makes a fantastic radio, they are far from perfect.

You can go spektrum, but the trouble with that is that telemetry doesn't work very well without a full RX and most FBL systems expect you to run just the remotes, and some don't implement the remote power buss that well. The spektrum radios don't seem to have the build quality of futaba (I haven't played with the DX18), but the software is really nice and for many is easier to setup.

Another option is Jeti. The DS-14 basic isn't tremendously more than the 14sg, but they have a much more mature telemetry system that will give you MAH consumed with only the amp sensors.

I looked at all of this pretty hard and finally just said screw it and bought a DS-16. Yea, lots of money, but It's been out for a few years now, and neither spektrum nor futaba have caught up while they continue to make further advancements so I decided to go for it.

If I didn't go for the Jeti, I probably would have gone with the 10J, as I don't see much that the 14sg buys you for heli flying unless the quality of the unit is better, but I haven't held them side by side.

Later,
schu

One of the biggest differences between the 10J and the 14SG that I can see, besides more channels, is the number of compatible receivers that can be used with the 14SG, S-fhss, Fasst, Fasstest.

That would make sense (Multi-rotor)

I'm thinking that there are some software features that are more suited for MR's than what is currently available with just a "H" model TX.

See anything that spec.'s a color-screen yet (?)

If they run up the price too much they will kill the market. I have friends that really want a 14SG but the price is just too much for them. Most of them bought Taranis Plus. Futaba needs to realize that.

It is basically just a 14SG with a color screen and better software. But also like to know if the gimbals are the same or if there more things updated than only the screen.
