Exclamation Collection of Useful Genius CP Links!

Every time I need some Genius info, it starts with a Google search that inevitably leads me to a thread here on HF. Figured I'd get the useful ones together in one spot. I put a little something together as a jumping-off point. Feel free to let me know about anything I've left out and I'd be more than happy to add it!

!!!First Word to the Wise!!!
The main motor wires can loop over the elevator servo, causing them to be pulled out when the servo moves. Anytime you have a crash or have a chance, check to be sure the wires are routed towards the front of the heli. They can be pushed aside and hold there themselves for some time.

oxide1 has come up with a fix if you do pull the wires from your main motor using some light soldering, found here:

Default The BEST GCP Mod ever! For less than the price of a new frame.

Moved this over from another thread.
I have converted all three of my GCPs to Mini GCPs, and two of them to brushless. Will never go back. It is the best of both worlds.
Tom Z did a good write up at the beginning of one of the Mini threads in RCG. I used the mechanical mod for the Ale servo link as opposed to the electrical servo mod. Make it once and forget it. (Use HM-4G6-Z-22 to make two links, WOW $2.50) It works fine.

Frame, Servo Holder, and Skids (WOW $10.35), are the ONLY PARTS REQUIRED. Total less than a new GCP frame. A minor mod to frame to get RX tray screwed on. (Dremel and Pin Drill were the only tools required.) All other parts are direct replacements. The Mini main gear is different but most prefer the GCP main. The GCP servo horns can be used, put the ball on the correct side of horn as needed. If you get Mini servos as replacements, the horns with molded balls are different, requiring a set of MCP links. (The moulded balls are larger.)

Pros
Stiffer frame
Stronger servo support
Have never broken a landing skid
Easier to get to main gear
Great COG
Better battery options because of tray location
Room for ESC under RX tray
Hardshell canopy fits well over horizontal RX/ESC
No Mini RX problem

Cons
Didn't like the two canopy holders. Used a #59 pin drill and bored thou the servo holder while in place and now use the one piece GCP canopy holder. Much stronger.

Any other mods are normal GCP/MCP mods;
Dot of hot glue on end of antenna
Hot glue support of power lead
Put insulation (24 ga silicon) on canopy rod
O-rings and spacer to replace dampeners (90-003)
O-rings on swash horns, stiffens servo link a bit (90-003)
Tape boom at frame insert
Use 2mm solid rod for replacement tail booms
Cover exposed tail wires with cocktail straw
Use stronger tail prop (KBDD)
I have not done the one mod that everyone says to do and that is the servo saver mod. Don't 3D and have not blown that many servos. Will most likely try it on a few servo horns and see what I think.
RD
Footnotes IMO:
B/L CO5M 1.5 w/ 8T & GCP Main & WK-WST-10-LT ESC
Hyp 240 is my go to batt, but there are a few new options that look good
Have tried KBDD mains. Maybe good for full out & 3D, but not for indoors or slow sport flying.
Have tried Extreme swash. Didn't feel as solid as stock and not worth the $20+

GCP canopy does fit. Click image for larger version

have admired this changeover!! excellent post Rob!! and am definitely going to try this at some point in time! where have you positioned your esc on your brushless bird? from the pic it looks like it's under your rx... is that correct?

oxide Yes
One of my Pros; Room for ESC under RX tray

Everyone!
Make this change the next time you have to get a new frame/skids for your Genius. Same amount of work and only left over part is the GCP servo holder. Cost less and will save $ in long term. Haven't bought a skid or frame ($3-$4 ea) since, GCP frame $12-$13. The frame is solid as a rock as compared to the GCP frame. I can't say enough about this mod. Only odd ball is the servo link and you just need to get a longer rod that you can put the dog leg in. P/N above worked, snip to length, screw on one end as normal and CA/hot glue the other.
