Ours son is 4...and already knows, and loves, HeliFreak and wants a "Green Helicopter to fly with Daddy" and his friends. The next step is to find a simulator suitable for a four year old. He is already taking computer lessons to get him prepared. Any one know of any thing like that?

Does Will already have a sim that he uses? Just put him on that! It's just a fancy video game for kids to fly a real pc simulator. Set up all the parameters for him and create a certain model that is his only to fly. I have a friend who has a 15 and 9-year-old - both boys. When they come over to visit, I set them up on my sim (Aerofly Pro Deluxe) and let them fly. I do some more instructional work on the 15-year-old than I do with the 9-year-old just because he is showing more actual interest. The younger just thinks it is cool to crash...not good for when I take them out this summer and teach them to fly on one of my old trainer planes. Anyway, they can absorb more info than we give them credit for, so just get a nice sim that Will wants (or has) and get the youngin' on it. :cool:

I would agree, put him on the most realistic sim you can, the only thing I might mention is that both g2 and g3 come with a replica radio and do not require you to subject your $500 transmitter to a drool shower.

For that reason alon you might conside the new G3.

Or if you're worried about the proximity of little hands, snacks and drinks to the controller, go to Wal Mart and get a USB Gamepad similar to nintendo gamepads, and use FMS sim. The analog sticks on the gamepad are similar to a transmitter's sticks, and can be used for other games as well. Best thing is,... at $20 if kool-aid finds it, you haven't broken the bank.
Our 6 year old daughter uses this setup, as well as owther kids that just want to try it out.

Will it is a lame excuse to say your 4 year old wants a simulator :wink: . Just get reflex XTR for him, its a good sim. I don't know what to choose if you don't want him to play with your own Tx though :?

Realflight works just fine. My little guy (just turned 6) loves that thing. He started at 4 - loved to crash everything. At 5 he liked to fly it a while then crash it. Now he's turned 6, we'll see what that brings.

Hmm, this is a tough one since it completely depends on the kids attention span. I have 3 kids (2 boys and a girl), none last more than 5 minutes on any of the sims we own (XTR, G2, G3, AFP). All they want to do is "play", not learn. IF you already own a sim, let the kid lose on it and see how long he lasts; if you don't, find someone that does or check your LHS to see if they can provide a demo. If you're one of the lucky few parents, he'll stick like glue to it.

Real flight has a green heli on there...no problem...if you have that sim..

You will be very surprised just how quick little fingers get going.
My daughter touched her 1st PC at 7 and after about 30 seconds or so had a hamdle on the mouse and started playing, opeloading her Cd's and opening games @ 13 she teaches me MS Office apps.

My son @ 4 placed his hand on the mouse- at that exact second saw the cursor move and was away. (his sister said "its easier for him being younger" lolol)

Hes now 10 and just flew a reflex heli quite well today (after only mucking around for 2-3 times over the past few months).
If he wanted to focus or if it was a starwars sequence, in 10 minutes hed easily surpass me .
He plays Starwars like the PC was part of his mind.

Im with the others give the little bloke Realflight and show him how to land etc from time to time.
Youll soon ban him from being too good

Hey Hi,
You would actually would be surprised at how the child picks up on these motor skills. They are at the age where they are inclined to learn to get it right. Sit a child in front of the computer and they will know before you will.

After the Black sheep weekend, we realize that at 4, the new bicycle is REALLY exciting for about......10 minutes, as is the HELI. He still wants a green one.

I agree that G3 is probably the best option, the graphics and sounds are atractive, if the kid watches his dad playing G3, he'd be interested even more. you might wana start making a special budjet for your son's future hobby though ! :cool:
