It seems to help allot my Scorpion HK-4530-540KV (Limited Edition) comes down allot cooler. I did not have my heat gun with me when I do I will post the temps. Looks messy with all the eagle tree crap on it but I dont fly with it on all the time.

looks interesting indeed. However I see a lot of batteries. What setup do you use for your TDR? If I am not mistaken I see 2 receiver packs.

YaYa I knew I would catch hell for the wires. I dont fly it like that only if I am logging speed. Here is what it looks like normally and I run one 3s pack for the fans and it last a long long time..

Yes I have two 80hv's and an 80lv I plan on hooking them together to handles 14s for my XXtreme when I get it...think it will work???..

Disappointed -> only 14S and not right up to 20S setup running them in series ????

Sorry and with all due respect, I just can’t get past that wiring nightmare. It would worry me all the time while flying...
Personally, I believe that a properly constructed Naca Duct is the way to keep the crocos cool. To date the temp readings has been under 70, but that was measured with an ambient of 20 and under. Not sure what will happen when we get to 30+ and running at 2000+ RPM...sizzling bacon perhaps...

If Mick will not come up with a final solution, I'll start something.
It is my belief, that a NACA duct is the way to go.
Very effective, proven over some 30 years and no additional electric/electronics.

If you get really angry Jointer, then just cut the nose off by an inch (2.5cm)
That's the easiest way to do it. No mess, nothing to glue, just a quick circumcision with a Dremel blade and plenty of air is coming in.

Yeah, i was seriously thinking about that, really!
But it would look really strange on the yellow canopy, but i have black pilot window...

The thing is i do not need fancy canopy for regular flying, but i also do not want to fly without it in hot summer.
The FFF would not be probably possible without canopy (must try it).

Cut somewhere, bend the laminate inside (will break probably)... or... do not know.

Edit: i will definetly not be sticking fans everywhere inside and LiPo or another BEC for them...

I really don't worry about the wires its just 2 sets of wires from each fan and people already running an ESC fan its just one more set of wires no big deal. The first photos are with the Eagle Tree crap on I only use that when logging speed. I think the duct is a great idea and pretty easy but this solution seems to work great I do full 3d with this setup no problem. I am going to cut a small hole above the motor fan to let the heat out better but will do it in a clean manner. As far as the duct goes does anyone have a concept I own a CNC machine shop maybe I can help..

What is the purpose of the fan above motor?
I would understand it if there was no heatsink, but why you have the heatsink there?
Is the frame for it mounted only on one screw per side?
I would be affraid if it stay in right position.

Also, the fans blow the air OUT, right, not ON the motor and ESC?
It is more effective like this?

Here is my 2 cents:

I cut the hole in the lower part of the canopy as Jan suggest, did not really do much for temps but i could tell it slows it down.

I put a fan on the esc to blow (via jive BEC) it was noisy and again did not make much difference.

The motor when it stops the outside temp rises, when its spinning its cooling and like all good motors even though its hot its normal and designed for this. The only issue is when ambient is hot the main gear and motor get hotter. If its humid it makes it worse also. I like flying in 15-20degC weather (like it is now in au) temps are really good nothing too hot, in summer when it gets really hot i don't like flying as everything runs quite hot inc the lipos.

The purpose of the fan is to pull the heat from the motor just as the fan on the ESC does. I am no expert but I can say that certain 800 class heli that has not hit the market yet and will be in XFC is running fans lots of them motor and ESC. It does help there is allot of heat to get rid of and any little bit helps to prevent over temps shutdowns and better efficiency. I have seen the results of running with and with out fans and its been proven to help keep from overheating period. The bracket if very very secure there's no way the fan can touch the motor outside of a crash and yes the fans blow OUT>>>

I have the Duct mould drawn, I have sent to it to a contact that has access to a CNC machine.

But....... IF you are volunteering then PM your EMail address and I will send the DXF DWG and STP file to you.

There is no one keener than I am to get the ball rolling on the Duct.
