I have a picture in my gallery of the modification I made to the Hatori header. It allows the header bolts to be tightened with the muffler installed using a cut off allen wrench. Have flown four tanks with out failure so far. Was able to torque the bolts after the first two flights. Third and fourth flights the bolts were still tight.

Kool idea Jay! Keep us informed how it works out after a few more flights. This may be a good fix as you can check/tighten the bolts between flights.

Later,

Let's carry this a step further. Below is a list of expansion coefficients for a few metals.

Aluminum 12.3
Steel 7.3
304 SS 9.6
310 SS 8.0
316 SS 8.9
410 SS 5.5
Titanium 4.8

Pick the material your header is made from and get screws to match.

I tossed in the titanium because I have a block of it here daring me to touch it.
Also have a family friend who owns a fastener supply and can get most anything with threads I can think of.

I have put another half a gallon on the heli with the muffler still on. I have twice been able to move the header screws tighter when the muffler is hot. So far no leaks. Picture of the modified header in my gallery.

Good mod Jay!

That is what we did with the SS header to, but so far once you initially torque the bolts down they never loosen back up. It is amazing how quick they loosen up with the stock aluminum header! Good work getting access to keep it tight!!
