Is someone going to step up and share how they did an elegant back lighting mod or what?

Default DX7 Back Light Mod

I found a site where you can get the kit if you are interested...I have been searching for months trying to find a source for the kit. Here it is: http://www.dfxhobbies.com/spektrum-s...ght-p-146.html

I have one ordered and can't wait for it to show up next week. I have emailed the person and instructions are included with the kit. I did not ask him for a copy before I got the kit. It seems like there is a hush hush attitude regarding this kit and I don't know why.

I hope this helps someone. John

Really cool mod and nice detail on the pics. I think I would've put the LED where you drilled the hole though, just personal preference. I saw a video on youtube where a guy had hooked up the LED to the binding process, similar to the cheapo TX's that come with the micros. That would be something I'd be interested in doing, any idea where it needs to be soldered on the board for that?

Nice mod, thanks for sharing!

I used the exact same LED you used and I gotta say, it is BRIGHT...perhaps too BRIGHT! It literally shines a "spotlight" in your eye if it's pointing in that direction. I just finished this mod, so we'll see how it goes flying in the "real world".

I might put a dimmer LED in...

If only I could find my neck strap, I'd give that a try too!

Thanks for listening.

I found the same thing; there were no details on how to do the mod so I took it upon myself to do a bit of experimenting and accomplished the mod on my DX7. I wrote up some very detailed instructions and for a small price they are available on my site (see signature below) if you are interested.

Happy hovering!

Thank You SB for the Info Today I make mine I post some video of my workbut I need to be careful because the LED is to bright if I pointed directly to my eyes, but I will not fly at night I believe that will be no problem otherwise I frosted w/ sandpaper and painted with a blue sharpie is better now to my eyes.

Put the LED on my DX7 today and sadly, it doesn't light. Was careful to follow the polarity but no blue light. Nice little clear bump on the top of the TX case for a conversation piece.

Changed the wires around where I soldered onto the board and now it works fine. Was positive that I had followed the polarity but obviously not.

As this is a DX7 mod thread I thought i'd share this with you, Its a small circuit i made that starts the countdown timer when you flick into idle up (I always forget to start it manually).

I am working on a version 2 that pauses and restarts the timer when using TH. For more info you can PM me.

Question

My problem is similar to what a few others have posted, and that is the buzzer on my DX7 is just not loud enough and I go too long on my battery packs (time flies when you're having fun).
I was thinking of getting the small vibration device out of an old cell phone and connecting that to the buzzer - any electronics experts that can comment and hopefully offer a "how to" ?

In addition, I need to PM "DarkTherapy" for info on how to trigger the count down timer - I'm still flying in "normal" mode, but when carrying the heli to the launch area I have TH on, so could trigger the timer when I switch back to "normal" mode.

Finally added an LED to mine. I'm using a UV led, the pic makes it look blue but it's more purple. Thanks SB for posting the tutorial.
