Question How to get the ends into the skid pipes

Is there a trick to get the plastic caps into the skid pipes? I tried to push them in by hand, but there's still a 1mm gap.

The guys do it with a long cable tie. I used a tail rod from a blade 450, someone else recommended using a flybar. Something plastic is probably better. Screw one of the above (or similar) into the nuts that go into the skids and use that to line up the hole for the bolts.

I hope I explained that OK. It can be extremely frustrating first time but then very simple once you find the correct implement to do it. I did not have suitable cable ties at the time but the 450 tail rod was perfect.

The plastic end caps can be tough. I normally trim a bit off of the taper to get them to go all the way in.

Also take a Xacto knife or small file and deburr the ends of the tubes on inside.

Cheers

Default How to get the ends into the skid pipes

I use a reamer on the skid tubes. It's been a while but I think the caps slide right in with the tubes reamed out to 6mm. To secure them I use a bit of shoe goo. Haven't had one come out yet and it beats trying to shave those caps

My apologies for wasting space.

I use a small pair of needle nose pliers, that have a cut out to cut wire. There's usually a cut out where you can put the plastic piece and have to particularly close the pliers and then be able to push it in from there. That's what I've done with my E5 and E7SE.

Thanks for your replies. I've tried to jam it in, pulled it pack out and took of some material where you could see black spots the aluminum. I'm now down to a <0.5mm gap.

I reduced the diameter of the plastic tips with a regular file until they fit inside the skid tube properly. I secure these plastic tips with regular 5 min epoxy.

Although my system works for me, it does surprise me that these plastic tips are not compatible with the skid tubes without modification.

Hey guy, loving my new E5 , the easiest fix is just order the raptor 50 skid pipe ends, one drop of c/a glue and push them in.

I normally grab a small hammer and tap them in.
They need to be a little tight or they fall out.
