Hi Stephan,
While you're hanging with Wazzer and Jungle Bob down in Borneo, can I stay at your place in Lucerne? Lucerne is on the top of my list of places in the world to live.

Oh, getting back on topic, here's a graph from this past weekend. None of those big power spikes but I was flying in a smaller area. I'm finding my batteries are happy at 4:30 flights.

what head speed are you getting with this setup?

Aah what a wonderful toy this Eagle Tree is! I have just rebuilt my Hurricane after a crash & this is the first log with the ET. I have a Z20 980 ordered so it will be interesting to compare the results when it arrives.

My configuration for this graph is stock standard gearing & setup. 19t owb, 14t pinion, Gaui 850 motor 500mm woodies, 2x 3s 3200mah Kong Power packs (6S) these packs have been cycled 90 times & are still going strong.

This is a short test hover in the backyard.

Cheers
Graeme

It's definately a fun toy....I enjoy reading and saving all the data after each session....
I really like the display unit, as it acts like a fuele gauge and I can get the maximum flight time from each pack.

Hey there Mjdee14, Have you got your optical tach working reliably on your hurri? I'm finding it jumps around a bit at times.

Here is a graph from one of todays flights, FFF fig 8's hard banked turns etc. I'm trying to get some graphs from my standard configuration before I install my Z20 980 which should be arriving soon. The one thing that has been a real surprise since installing the ET is my headspeed. I had no idea it was so fast. Here I was thinking I was down around 1800 & I'm actually around 2000, & this is with the standard Gaui 850kv motor & 14t pinion.

I have always thought my flight times where short considering I'm running 3200mah 6s. (7:30min) I have been blaming the gaui motor, but looking at the graphs from others I feel that my headspeed is largely to blame for the high Mah usage.

I hope the Z20 will live up to my expectations, I'm a little worried I might not notice a significant difference. I noticed in your graphs Mjdee14 you show a headspeed 200rpm below mine. That is going to lower the amp draw considerably.
I am going to run a few tests tomorrow. Run flat 100% & see what headspeed I get. Then I'll lower my TC to bring the HS down and see what change in power consumption that makes.

Cheers
Graeme

From looking at your graph....you look to be doing very well with flight times, HS, Mah used....only 2400 mah for 7 1/2 mins at that HS seems to be very good....you could have gone a nother 1/2 min or so...I don't think you;ll get much more out of that set up.

I'm running the Z20 -980 and I don't fly for more than 7 - 8 min...and as I'm getting better, I notice I'm really sucking up more amps doing harder maneuvers.

I can see why the hadrcore 3d guys get 5 mins

The Z20 is difinately a better more efficient motor...just not as powerful as the 1.5w gaui

Default Headspeed & power consumption

Ok, being the technical type I was curious to see what effect headspeed had on current draw. The chart below shows a series of tests showing my hurricane's hovering load at various headspeeds.

My setup is the same as I mentioned earlier; Gaui 850kv motor, stock standard gearing, 19t OWB, 14t Pinion, Gaui 50A ESC, 500mm woodies, 2 x 3s1p 3200mah Kong Power packs.

The first part of the chart shows a flat 100% TC & I was surprised to see it reach 2300rpm before settling down to just under 2200. From what I had been reading I didn't think the Gaui 850kv was capable of that. I didn't graph my usual TC as that is in the chart above so I just stepped the TC down to reduce the headspeed for each 1 min hover. The last reading was with a headspeed of 1281 rpm avg. She was a pig to handle and coning of the rotor disk was visible, but she did hover and at 1/2 the wattage of the 100% flat run. Interesting stuff!

Cheers
Graeme

I went back to the brushless tach...it sems easier and more reliable...the only bad thing is I can't see rpm when doing an auto....since the motor stops.

ET is suppossed to be coming out with an update in the future to allow two rpms at the smae time...then I'll probably hook it back up again. I painted half my main gear white and it seemed to work ok.....I didn't really get any glitches.

2 x 5S Hextronik 2300MaH 20-30C packs (10S)
Kontronik 55-10-32 Jazz (governor / heli mode of course)
I think this flight was with RevCo gears.. quite a while back.
CF frame, CNC head, RCP 500mm CF blades.

I think this was my eighth flight so I was taking it relatively easy.

Default Z20 1470, Zippy-R 3700 mAh

Here we go, I changed my setup mainly to 550 mm blades, this is the new graph and tech spec:

Hurricane CF long tail boom, full CNC Head
Z20-1470
13 T pinion, 61 T front, 20T OWB
Zippy-R 3700 mAh 527g
Hobbywing 80A
Hobbywing UBEC high Voltage
Gy401, S9254 tail servo
GCT X-PERT 550 mm main blades
MAH Blades 95 mm tail blades (rock solid, I'm impressed!)
Spektrum DX7, AR7000
3 DS821 servos for cyclic
GAUI light weight paddles
HS 2100
Weight: 2330 g

Flight performance:
Flying style:
(very) mild 3D, funnels, big loops, inverted, some piro flips etc...
Compared to my 515mm blades with heavy paddles this is a real improvement. I got quicker response with less headspeed. I need less pitch than before, + - 10°.
Even the Z20 has less bogging with the 550 mm setup. I changed from REvco gears to the "ok" stock gears, holds good, no problems.

happy flying, Stephan

Very very interesting graph graeme, it show almost a linear relation between HS and Amps:
- 1900=19A
-1800 = 17A
- 1680= 15A

This is with the GAUI 850Kv.

You mentioned to me that the results with the Z20 were finaly not as good as expected. Could you publish the silimar graph with it ?

Here is one with the Z20 in FF at 85% TC & one hovering with 75% TC.
