Hi Dave!

I just have ordered your JR ELS01 and ELG01 servo combo

Is it fit perfectly or do i have to make any modification?

Can i use with the stockYGE 90LV Power BEC?

Thx,

The fit with the pem nuts in the carbon frames is not exact with those servos, so Kyle just uses a washer on the servo screws without the grommets installed...essentially hard mounting the servos to the frames...which is nothing new, as Kyle has been hard mounting all his servos in all his helis for some years now. No issues.

Many guys are reluctant to hard mount servos in their helis, and I'm one of those guys (hold over from my airplane and nitro heli days). I still always use grommets if I can...makes sense to me, and certainly can't hurt.

But I can say from experience watching and maintaining Kyle's helis over the years, that hard mounting doesn't seem to negatively effect things...at least on electric helis.

Yes, you can us the YGE's BEC for power, as Kyle has his 480 set-up this way.

Hope this helps.

not with the grommets for sure, they are a tad short. I am building one and discovered that. I like the idea of the washers that Dave mentioned, currently i have the grommets set half way to the outside but seems to hold the servo tight, nonetheless it is making me nervous if it will hold with 3D moves, I will try the hard mounting.

Like abanihani said. No need to try and change the pem nut positions. Just remove the servo grommets, use a washer on the screw to allow maximum contact with the servo mounting lug, tighten down, and move-on.

All the servos in the world are different from different manufacturers, so there is no way one mounting position will work for all servos... but if hard mounted, all will fit no problem.

That's what I was thinking as well, stretch it and fly with SAB 500mm blades.

Hi guys,

Does the throttle below mean the throttle curve percentage? I am using a Futaba 14SG. When I program my jive, I leave my atv at default value and go thru the setup, does this mean ATV not adjusted?

Throttle curve 100% = 80% in mr mel calculator

Or

Throttle curve 80% = 80% in mr mel calculator
Anything more that 80% will not do anything?

TIA

Throttle 55%: 2357
Throttle 60%: 2480
Throttle 63%: 2553
Throttle 67%: 2651
Throttle 70%: 2725
Throttle 73%: 2798
Throttle 76%: 2872
Throttle 80%: 2970

The second one has ATV adjustment. The throttle endpoints are calibrated to the Jive so that the ESC arms at bottom stick and the LED on the Jive comes on at full stick. Again this is not recommended by Kontronik.

Throttle 60%: 2382
Throttle 65%: 2455
Throttle 70%: 2529
Throttle 75%: 2602
Throttle 80%: 2676
Throttle 85%: 2749
Throttle 90%: 2823
Throttle 95%: 2896

As you can see with no ATV adjustment, 80% yields even higher RPM than 95% with ATV adjustment. From Mr Mel's calculator it is clear that 80% with no ATV adjustment is close to if not past 100% PWM.

The Kontroniks governor works in a different way to most other ESCs. It doesn't actually try to keep the motor at a set rpm but turning at an output of a percentage of PWM. The motor speed isn't directly governed. The formula Kontronik use to convert throttle percentage to PWM is;

PWM=50+(TC/2) where TC = throttle curve setting.

The Jive governer needs ideally 20% PWM of headroom so the TC needs to be set at a value that gives 80 out of the above formula - 50+(60/2)=80 - so the TC needs to be at 60% flat for the Jive governor to do its thing properly.

So, with a Jive in Mode 4 or 11. Keep your throttle at 0 to 100 end points set Idle 1 as a flat 60% TC then use Mr. Mel's head speed calculator to find which pinion will get you closest to your desired head speed then acquire/use that pinion size in the model. With Jives it is best to keep the TC static and adjust the pinion.

If you intend to use idle 1 and 2 then set idle 2 tc at a flat 70% and pinion for that speed (not ideal settings but the governor will still have some head room to play with) then lower the TC in idle 1 to get the head speed you want.

Based on your formula 50+TC@60/2=80%

My head speed will be governed at 2970 as per mr Mel calculator posted earlier?

Or 80% of 2970?

Neither. Set TC at 60% and Governor will be working for 80% PWM which will equal a governed head speed of approx 2480 (60% TC on the calc listing above)

So for a further example, set the TC at 70% for a governed PWM of 85% which will equal a governed head speed of approx 2725 (70% TC on the calc listing above).

You don't want to take the TC above 70% in practice. What will happen is when the ESC sees a increase in load it will start increasing the PWM to hold head speed but if the PWM hits 100% the ESC will keep it at 100% PWM for the remainder of the flight.

just remember those values are with a pyro and different gearing.
Stock 4015-1070 with 23T gives the following values

Throttle 55%: 2115
Throttle 60%: 2224
Throttle 63%: 2290
Throttle 67%: 2378
Throttle 70%: 2444
Throttle 73%: 2510
Throttle 76%: 2576
Throttle 80%: 2664

So that is around 2200~2300rpm with sufficient headroom.

Thanks guys, I have been running it at 80% on my TC which based on the formula it will be at 90% PWM but I dont feel the headspeed extremely high and the motor and esc is only warm. My country outside temperature is about 30 degC now and I fly mild 3D. I did turn on KSA mode as well.

Maidened mine yesterday. 1st battery was without the canopy, landing several times to increase Vbar gains. 2nd battery with the canopy on I went into full 3D. We tached the head speed at 2550rpm with a WR Chinnook. With a Revolectrix 30C 6s 3900mAh pack (577g) I flew for 4mins 30secs and I had 30% left at the end. The headspeed was enough to do everything I asked of it but I feel a little bit more would be more exciting for me. This is with a Pyro 600-11 and 18T mod .7 pinion. I ordered both 18T and 19T pinions but unfortunatelyby mistake I ordered ones with 5mm ID instead of 6mm ID. My friend drilled out the 18T pinion for me but I think it's slightly off center as I can't get a perfect mesh. I'm thinking rather than ask him to drill the 19T pinion for me I'm going to switch to mod 1 gears and use a 13T pinion. That should give me the slightly higher head speed I want.

Overall i think the heli flies awesome and it looks great in the air. I felt very confident with it on the 2nd battery. I'm going to be flying this heli a lot this year.

Is there any one Who use the JR DS3421HV's? What modification did you guys make to fit this?
