Default Nigel crash ...

Hi
I just saw the Nigel flight and crash
on HF videos
What happen to the tail?
Was he flying with the open tail box?
It seems that he broke the plastic gears..
Please let us know
Best regards

Yes I saw the crash also and it obviously was not a pilot error. Like Xtreme*76 said it looked like a tail failure. Any more info on this incident?.

This silence is very strange
to much people saw that video
a lot of us fly the MA Stratus
Last saturday I lostmy tail in flight
(the old closed box)
and this thing in 3 years never happened
So I actually thought
to change the closed with the latest
open tail box, after this video
I really don't know what to think about
Probably I'll say to Dino to
decline the order ...
Regards
Giuseppe

There is hundreds of video's in the archive. Might help to give a clue to which one your refering.

I touched several times the ground with my tail, My gears are like new...it's the delrin gear that failed first....
Same thing for my last crash... My Open TR box gears look like new, it again the delrin plate that failed...
You jsut have to set the gears correctly....

Well it seems it is not a Helifreak video.

I tried this link and could not get the site to load.

http://rotarypower3.com/smackdown_vids.htm

Said it could not find server.
That would probably be the reason that no one answered your first post.

Finally found the video I guess. Looks to me like just another crash. Model was flying low and can't tell if it was pilot error or not. See it happen all the time at fun flys by some very good pilots. Would have least thought the pilot would have hit throttle hold or killed the engine instead of letting the model beat itself to death on the ground. Maybe there was RF problems. Hard to tell from a 22 second video and not being there.

The comment on the other forum was that it was a lock out issue.

Hi Guys , I was at this funfly here in Australia , it was the heli smackdown funfly with Al Jnr and JK attending .
The heli in question was Nigel Brown's and he had a radio issue . Nigel was hitting the throttle hold and everything else he could do to avoid the funkey chicken with no response from his heli .
I asked him how the heli come up afterwards and the mainframes where still intact as was the tail box and a suprisingly lot of other parts that would have thought to been mashed .
These things sure have a strong main frame from what I've seen and take a beating pretty well . Hope I never have to find out with mine though . :glasses2:
Cheers
Jason .

Thanks Jaso. I knew it didnt look like a pilot error. Glad that the main frames survived.

alot of other guys experienced lockouts...

wouldn't be surprised if someone had been turning there tx on and off

Man that sucks to hear more than one heli was lost under "mysterious" circumstances. That has got to be the worst thing that can happen.

Only time I have had lockouts or what appeared to be lockouts wiithout regaining control I had bad bus bar in the RX. Futaba 149's seem to do this phenomenon. I have had 3 do it over the last 3 years, but luckily only crashed one time because of it. I have very luckily never been shot down, but I have seen it happen to others, and seen the results, not pretty at all. Sorry to hear.

I've heard of people here in the UK purposfully trying to scan frequencies using scanners, and then powering up a Tx, to try either to crash a Plank or a Heli..

I would hope this would not go on , but it's like everything else.

Not nice to see the Stratus Rotovating.
