Default Good Fuel pump and Tubing

Hey, I'm in need of doing a little maintenance on my N5C. What is a good fuel tubing to use?

I'm also in search of a fuel pump. I have been using a Hangar 9 manual pump and it`s about done. Any recommendations on a good pump?

Thanks, Bill

I use standard align fuel tubing, or whatever amain carries, but I prefer the thicker walled tubing. As for pumps, I use the cheap hand crank pumps like the Hangar 9 unit. Seems to work great for me, every couple years I buy a new one.

I use the plastic jug the fuel comes in. Will the MK pump work with the jug? Didn`t see a picture on Central website.

Thanks, Bill

What is that you have it mounted on? Mine is just chained to the handle and is loose.

Thanks for the pic.

That's what I linked to. You screw the whole thing onto the jug, the pickup line with screen is in the hub, and you pull the probe out and attach it to your heli and crank away. When done, replace the probe in the top and it deals it. I like it.

Tower has fuel fittings that mount in the fuel jug top. Most pumps just hand on the fuel lines but I always disassemble and drill two holes for a wire loop to go around the fuel jug mouth. There are several pumps that mount on the jug - Sullivan, Dave Brown, above - but not really an advantage. I like a pump that lasts 10 years instead of one summer.

I ordered some of the Sullivan ProFlex tubing. We'll see. I used Prather for decades and then Aero Trend blue but both are toast. The test for tubing is a clunk line with muffler pressure contaminating the fuel.

I'm not sure what you're doing that kills pumps but I've only replaced one in five years, and it cost 12 bucks.
I prefer the convenience of having the pump mounted, my friends have theirs in the tool box, neither is vastly better than another. There are other jug cap options too if you want to spend a little more. The thing I dislike the most is the way my brother does it where he sticks the hose in the jug every time. That makes a mess.

I would not use the Sullivan ProFlex tubing for anything with a nitro plane or heli. It might be fine for smoke oil. First problem is that it is opaque. Can't see if fuel is getting to your carb. Second problem is that it is not really very flexible - not good for clunk line unless you have a big tank. Third problem is that it is really hard to get over nipples. I don't think it will be a hit in the hobby business. I might use it for a fuel jug and pump setup.

Good to know.
I just picked up some Dubro from the not so LHS. This is what I have been using and don`t really like it. It seems to hold up ok except the in and out with the fill plug, that part splits after about 2 trips to the field.

Hey, is there a reason you posted small and medium size tubing? Do they need both? I'm going to order some when I order that handy jug pump!

No, i was giving examples. One tip i have, is to use short bits of fuel tubing over the ends of the fuel tubing instead of clamps. Works great.

Yep. That works great and does not split the tubing like the metal clips.

Great idea 👍. Do I need wider tubing or can you force the same size over itself?

It needs to be the same so it clamps down on the fittings. Its a pain in the ass to put together and doesn't seem like it does much but after its in there for a while its really secure.

Sometimes the same size splits. Try regular on regular and large on regular. Silicone tubing used to be better quality and not split. Needle nose pliers.
