Default E6/E7 Canopy Quality

Hi Guys,

Finally got a chance to fly my brand new E7 yesterday. First flight didn't go so well, one of the motor wires detached from the bullet plug and the heli coasted down safely.

However, only after putting on the canopy ONLY 3 times, one of the lower Canopy Grommets ripped out of the hold taking a part of the canopy with it. I know when the first time I did this, it was very difficult to put on and take off and after reading Matt's post regarding not using any lube on the grommets, I decided to just put a dab of it and it sure made a huge difference. However, even with a little bit of lube, this is the end result.

Anyone else run into the same issue??

Thanks!

Mine was a little hard to put on and take off for the first few times, but never broke anything. You must have pushed or pulled really hard to break this canopy...Mine is a very good quality canopy just think enough to hold, but not too much to be too heavy.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it. How bad is the hole, post a picture.

I really really really highly recommend the RC Booya canopy releases!

They make this a very easy operation with no chance of hurting your canopy.

They cost less than a canopy does and they will make removing the canopy a very easy stress free operation both for you and the canopy

I put a drop of oil on each grommet to make it easier to remove. I've also ordered RCBooya quick release, still waiting for them to arrive...I'm curious to sell the magnetic canopy holders.

I have been pretty careful with this canopy since the beginning...Especially after I saw how hard it was to put on and take off. Adding the lube did help quite a bit but for whatever reason, it just cracked on my last attempt to put the canopy back on. I went ahead and ordered the RCBooya so I don't destroy this canopy. But that's a pretty expensive for just some clips...

Here's the damage:

I had some spider cracking as well. The RCBooya mounts are a bit pricey but i run them on almost all of my birds. Saves time and the canopy is much easier to get on and off.

That being said, I do think the canopy material is a bit overly stiff. I will probably be looking to fusuno or canomod to make an aftermarket canopy.

Agreed. I think that is the main reason why my canopy cracked (too stiff). I will also be looking at an aftermarket canopy when they become available...

I'm borrowing from what I've done with my TDRs, and I'm planning to use Tenax fasteners for my E6/E7 canopies.

There's a little work involved (if you can cut metal with a Dremel, then you can do this), but it's cheaper than the RC Booya mounts, are quick-release, and the fasteners won't come off the mounting post unless you remove them.

I'll start a different thread if there's any interest in seeing how it's done.

I spray silicone lube on the grommets and mounting lugs. works very well, and the canopy is much easier to de-install. It does not seem to mollify the rubber grommets enough to lose it during high speed backward flight.

Also will be trying a set of Quick UK magnetic canopy mounts (700n style)

I've modified a set of Quick UK magnetic mounts from the 700E. Works great, and the canopy is very secure.

I've sent an email to Bud at Quick UK to see if he is going to offer these in his line up.

Removed 4mm from the front mounts (shorter ones for the 700E), and 6mm from the rear mounts. Also drilled and tapped the mounting holes all the way through to allow the studs to go all the way though.

Could use a little less actually, but it all depends on the shape of your canopy for clearance around the main gear. Could always add a little washer to bump it out a little if needed.

Default RC Booya

Well, got the RC Booya mounts today. Got it installed but noticed that the main gear now rubs against the canopy. This didn't happen w/ the stock mounts. Now I have to use the tail blade spacers to raise up the mounts...

How are these working out, still good?

Think I will get me some as my canopy started to show signs of cracking around the holes before its maiden from taking it on and off just a few times.

Yeah still working fine. Might be able to get away without modifying them depending on your canopy mold.

Thanks for the quick reply

Gonna order myself a set

Are these the ones?
http://www.quickuk.eu/products/1822/...t_tx7f-05.html

Do they fit ok with the standard canopy gromits on the E7?

Just don't go super fast backwards with them, mine lifted off at the back recently and lost the canopy. Although I only had a pair at the back, and the stock ones at the front. Maybe with them at the front and back, it will be really secure for FBF .

I was there when it happened to 4cyclic, therefore I installed RCBooya in back and magnetic in front, works great for me.

Those are for the Nitro, you'll want the electric ones.

The should still work with the E7 grommets, but I'm pretty sure I used the Trex ones as they had a tighter fit for the studs going through the canopy.
