Default My gaui is alive :)

Hi all,
Today, I made the first two flights on my gaui 425.

Hacker A40-12S 1350kv
Ice 75
Futaba 3152 on cyclic and BMS661 on tail
Medium boom and Trex 600 landing gear
2x3S 3000mAh 30C (one on top and one of bottom of frame)

First I tried a spool up with no main/tails blades with only 3S lipo > lot of vibrations
I tried same spool up on 6S (at 70% throttle) > a lot better

So I was courageous and installed the main/tail blades

Spool up on ground (no pitch) was ok so I set the pitch curve and it left the ground

It look like I am running around 2150 at 75% -2250 rpm at 85%.My current gearing is 14/50/20/61
Do you think it is ok for the moment? Should I install 470mm wood blades and keep same gearing?

The only issue is the tail behaviour : I have a slow wag. I tried to put bigger Gaui 550 tail blades, increase headspeed and change gain between 28 to 40 (spartan DS760 and DX7)
> no real result > did my tail servo is crappy?

And could you give a look to the following castle log and tell me if everything looks ok > it could be that the ICE 75 was set up on "simple governor" mode, even if I was thinking that he was on "fixed endpoint"

I will keep you up to date of next flights

Thanks for all the infos on 425/550 forums

Congratulations on your maiden flight.

For the tail wag you could check the following thread
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=66036

I would first make sure that tail is mechanically smooth, move the tail servo ball one ball out and start with ESC in fixed endpoint mode. Once tail issues are resolved then you can enable governor mode and tune its gain.

cheers,

I did not have the opportunity to fly again the Gaui but I just got a second hand Savox 1290MG for investigation purpose, if Blue Bird servo is still giving issues.

Do you think it will be fine running cyclic futaba servo (know to be power efficient) with the Savox tail (know to be power consuming) on ICE 75 bec (set up to 5.2 V). I am mainly doing small translation for the time being.

Which servo horn should I buy for the 1290MG?

Which tail blades did you use on your medium boom Gaui's?

Edit : I just check and the tail servo ball is at 10mm > is it ok? Next option is 14mm

Hi,
I did two mores flights but the tail is still wagging slowly > I tried to play with tail gyro gain and headspeed but not much change

I was planning to install my Savox 1290MG inside the 425 plastic frame but it is a quite short standard size servo and so the predrilled screw holes does not match the servo tabs holes (servo tabs hole arrived on the border of the frame cut out)

Did someone has any ideas/picture on how to attach this short servo to the plastic frame

Thanks

what gyro are you using and how is it mounted (hard or soft) ?
perhaps try a different mounting pad first to get rid of the tailwag

you can get adapters to mount mid-size-servos into the frame, sorry but I have no part-# at hand, but they are often included in the kit

I use a Spartan DS760 gyro (using stock Spartan mount : frame > tick adhesive pad> metal plate > small adhesive pad > DS760) So mount is quite soft

the Savox 1290MG is a standard size servo(20mm wide) but quite short in lenght, so I think adaptator plate will not work > I will look anyway as I have a 425 IRCHA kit still in box
