The DFC canopy might fit the old frame. I won't promise. But I can't really see any reason it wouldn't.

Mabuhay.
The "DFC" canopy fits the old "wide body" v1/v2 with no problems. And, it looks pretty good. Plus, you can go "halo halo" with after market upgrades with the wide-body frame that do not exist for the new narrow-body DFC frame. |

Haha mabuhay ticedoff8 nice nitro you got there, I'm amazed that there's a nitro running tri-blades, do you have a video of that I'm interested how it flies, is that also the older version of the Trex 700 with a dfc canopy?

Basically, Yes, it is the older v2
It is the Custom Heli Products (CHP) 700-N-DL frames. http://customheliparts.com/store/ali...n-dl-frame-set This upgrade replaces the bellcranks and linkages with direct to swash. It is much cleaner. And, it keeps all the stock dimensions of the original wide-body frames. This allows me to use all the 3rd-party upgrades I've accumulated. The head and tail are the new Align 3-bladed upgrades The canopy is Fusuno's Nitro DFC "Monster" canopy (I asked them to leave off the word "Monster"). I flew it with the Zeal 690, but they are too heavy. I am now flying with the Align 690 3-blade. They are lighter than the Zeal and make a big difference. I don't have any videos. I fly mostly by myself, so I cannot get a recording. |

Check bearings, make sure boom supports are still glued properly, make sure all bolts are still tight.
Links on the align wear pretty quickly so you'll want to check those aren't too loose either.

Congrats on the acquisition Nitro can be a bit of a pain but it's a blast!
First thing I do before I fly it is take the engine apart and replace the front and rear bearing. I always do this when I get a used engine. I've been bitten by being lazy and not changing bearings when I get a used engine and it sucks. What engine does it have? I believe all .91-1.20 heli engines should be 17 x 35 x 8 for rear and 3/8 x 7/8 x .281(9/32) for front but I need to know what engine it has to know for sure. Don't buy the OEM engine bearings, you can get the same quality bearings for cheaper from other places. At the very least take the engine apart and check the bearings. If they feel even the slightest bit gritty or notchy, replace them - no exceptions. I would also probably replace the ring, just for good measure, but depending how used it is it might be fine....post plenty of pictures. Take the muffler off and take a picture through the exhaust port - towards the top of the piston you should be able to see a black ring. If it's still black, it's good. If it's worn, and shiny, you should replace it. Worn rings can cause compression issues and inconsistent running. Check over all fuel lines for leaks and tiny cracks/holes, including the fuel pressure line. Pull the clunk out and make sure the clunk line is in good condition. Check all bolts for tightness as nitro is always trying to vibrate itself apart. If you have to replace the bolt or tighten it up, I use red loctite, but blue works too, just make sure you use plenty and clean off the threads before installing because of nitro oil. What fuel do you plan to use? 15% or 30%? If you need any help with any of this, feel free to send me a PM.

Definitely get the hz-r over the hz, imo. The hz-r is the regulated version of the engine - there's a regulator on the carb that meters the fuel much more closely and gives you more consistent power. The tank pressure is also fed off the crankcase instead of the muffler, so you don't have exhaust gas in the fuel tank eating your clunk line.
The % in nitro fuel is the nitro content. Higher nitro gives you more power, generally speaking. Depending on the engine you may also need to lower the compression with higher nitro content to avoid pre detonation. If the previous owner was running 30%, then I'd keep doing that. I would also recommend using the 91h to learn how to tune. It'll be cheaper and likely easier than learning on a 105. Once you have that down, then think about getting the bigger engine.

Yeah stick with the 91 first. You have a brand new engine, may as well use it. Just make sure to break it in first like your friend said. Lots of threads and videos about breaking in and tuning the Align 91H / OS 91 HZ (same engine).

Make your mistakes on the 91. Learn to tune it, rebuild it, etc. An Align 91H is just a rebranded OS 91. Still a very good and powerful motor. You don't need anything more than that to learn. Once you have a handle on everything and are fully comfortable with nitro, then you can think about upgrading to a 105. Remember, you will have to buy a new pipe for the 105 as well. The motor and pipe can be upwards of $600-$700 depending on if you get the HZ vs the HZ-R (regulated version). That's probably more than you paid for the entire helicopter. You will learn everything slowly, but let me give you one BIG piece of advice. Hot starts are bad lol. It only takes one to make you completely OCD about checking TH. Hot start is when you are in and idleup mode and you disengage throttle hold and the machine snaps to 80% throttle. That is a bad day. At best you'll burn up a clutch. At worst..............well. So, when starting the machine, always make sure you're in TH but most importantly - make sure you are always in normal mode before disengaging TH.

If it has muffler pressure you shouldn't have to take the line off to fill up. That's only the case with regulated engines with backplate pressure. Were you turning the pump really fast? If the line/connectors you use to connect the filler to the tank is too big (loose) it will be easier to pop off just from the high pressure of turning the pump handle quickly.
Post a pic of the tank fill/line area if you can. Definitely get help from a friend the first few times you fly. Going from electric to nitro takes some learning. There's a lot to learn before you can even get it started up. One thing to know that boggled my mind when I started nitro, once you get the engine started, if it ever shuts off while running and you try to restart it, you have to connect the glow plug driver every single time you start the engine. I would get it running, it would shut off (usually from too low idle) and I'd forget to connect the glow plug driver and naturally it wouldn't start. Connect the driver and it started immediately. For some reason I kept forgetting that these engines don't have their own ignition.
