I started on a 120 sr and loved it. I don't think a bl version would be useful at all to a beginner and maybe not even "safe" tech. What would of been useful to ME as a beginner would of been indestructible mains and skids. I broke 2 or 20 sets.

It's actually a great price...same as the 120SR BNF I do believe...
Looks like another winner for the FP crowd |

My 120 S arrived from Horizon Hobby over the weekend. Unfortunately, the winds have been too high to try and fly it. Hopefully it calms down so I can try it out soon.
My only other helicopter is a Nano CP-S which I have difficulty with it drifting all over the place. I thought I would try a fixed pitch and come back to it. Otherwise, I'll just keep practicing on Phoenix. |

I don't have any experience on other helicopters to compare it to except my Nano CP-S. As a true beginner, I was able to bring it to a hover in my living room and hold it in place after about 5 minutes. After a few more flights I could fly around tail in without crashing much. Obviously, I need more time on the sticks but I feel like this will be great before moving up to a larger CP model.

Anyone found the SPM for the 120S anywhere?
The 120S manual says it's on the Spektrum website, but I haven't found it... |

It looks like the main blades (part# BLH4111) are not in stock anywhere. Still waiting for those. Are there any aftermarket options? Does anyone know what the "Upper Damping Plate: 120 S" (part# BLH4110) is? It's not listed in the manual but it is on the parts section of the website. Finally, I am enjoying this helicopter. It's a real cruiser. The size is perfect for outdoor flying even with a little wind. The price is right so I do not feel too badly when I fly it like a stole it. Finally, it is small enough that my paranoid desire for safety does not get the best of me at off-the-field flying. It suffered a hard plant in the grass today. This thing takes crashes pretty well. The only damage was the swashplate inner and outer ring separated. My hope is MicroHeli or Lynx come up with the metal swashplate sooner rather than later. |

I have both of those. Out of the box, I have not had those troubles mentioned in the video. The 120s has a slight flutter in the tail, but it improved after tightening the blades as directed in the manual. It is more difficult to hold altitude than the Nano CPS. My guess is that is just because it is a fixed pitch helicopter. It is slow, but I see that as a benefit since it is marketed towards beginners like me.
The Nano CPS is faster, but easier to hold in position. As I have said in another thread, it feels flimsy. I've had problems with the main gear slipping off in flight. I have ordered an aftermarket replacement with better retention, but it hasn't arrived yet. All said, I like them both. Between the two, I would pick the Nano CPS. The 120s was easy enough to pick up and fly. Battery life on both is about 4-5 minutes for me. |
