It would be nice to see the registry today after the few that have changed hands. #38 (Brian's) is getting a new owner soon.

Regardless of owners, all I wish is to see them in their natural habitad (any Speed Cup) running wild and free.
IMO Is a shame to make a Diabolo S a hangar queen.

Totally agree..hanger queen hell no. I would love to get to one of the speed events but its one hell of a costly exercise.

Out of interest, what is the process the sell a Diabolo S? With my banshee I have to send an email to the banshee team to transfer ownership other wise the next owner cant access the spare parts.

Those that have sold their DS, Please comment here, did you email Gerd or just sell the heli?

I would guess something similar if one owner feels transfering the service/support,but there is nothing written down that I know from Minicopter. I take it as commom sense to do it since they are limited edition items with unique support.

William
I feel you about not living near a Cup event, but at least you let your S run wild where you at. Growing up as a young modeler outside the US had me dreaming of some day been able to competete or even watch the US Nats and other events. Fast FWD to today, I now live only hours from the big AMA and IRCHA site, and have attended 17 US Nats in pylon racing and helicopter aerobatics, super lucky to earn hardware 7 times. Funny enough, today Im the stepfather of the heli speed cups in the US. Never saw that coming.
(The late Don Chapman being the father of these events and IRCHA)

I'm not near any events that I know of.. Except that they are heald in my country.. But I let mine rip over s georgia whenever possible. Mine will be a hangar queen for a year though as I have to deploy. She will have to sit until I come home.. But at least I will have some smaller ones with me and I can practice some speed flights. I need to get closer to Ohio someday.

I don't know of any other speed flyers in my state, and even in the whole country there are only maybe half a dozen serious speed freaks. This does limit competitions due to the logistics of travel and means we only have one a year and I think that even that has an uncertain future. Even at IRCHA, apart from the factory teams, there really are less than a dozen serious contenders! Which all makes William's contribution all the more valuable!

It's not actually that difficult to transport, you can use a golf club case, which is a bit bulky and won't fit in a standard taxi, or else, at least for pod and boom, put the body in a suitcase surrounded by clothes, wife's underwear ideal , and put the blade and boom in a cardboard tube which is easy to carry. As far as lipos go, I put 3 sets in my tx case and take as cabin baggage. Had no problems at all at checkin or security with this.

I think the bitchin' that goes on about veracity of speed measurements has done a lot to kill the 'fun' aspect of speed and we really only need to worry about that at FAI official record attempts. I guess the marketing implications of the 'fastest' manufacturer has led to more squabbles and less fun :

I fly both in WV USA, and Ohio USA, "Yeah I live on the BIG OHIO RIVER, so I get to see many great states daily".

I didn't have any competition here either until I broke out my DS at the field one day. Next thing I know, every pilot there was racing me, no matter what they had. MA, TG, E-FLIGHT, hell even the Goblins tried,,,,,,,,,,,, you name it, we had fun........

The coolest part of the whole DS thing is this, everyone wants to see it fly. Young, Old, and even Plankers. I always get invited back....Not sure if its the speed or the REBEL YELL it makes crossing the line...

This is for Chago, when I come done to visit, I really wish you would quit flying my DS with NO HANDS @ 190mph, looking back at the crowd, cuz it FREAKS ME OUT!

So what exactly is the problem? me not touching the sticks, or looking back at the crowd when your heli is doing 150mph in front of us?
Just proving the point it flies hands off, straight and level, really really fast
Wish we had a video of that moment.

next time Il do it blind folded

Checking in from the Pacific Northwest with some photos of #40 after a good day of flying. I love this machine... Can't wait to get some better weather so that I can start practicing more consistently for this year's speed cup.

Cheers,
- Justin

Very nice Justin! She really looks so pretty! This is one scary ass machine once you hit it 2600RPM 16 degrees full pitch. She becomes quite twitchi at those speeds..hair inputs is that she needs . Keep us posted

Thanks, William! I'm starting out slow at 2300 for now, but will bump it up once I get comfortable. Getting up to speed on this model is effortless compared even to my TDR. Just crazy...
