For a non smacker I think the decision is easy: TDR
I've seen the Goblin at the Orlando Heli Blowout. It's nice, but seeing it fly in person wasn't so impressive as I expected. I was prepared to be blown away after seeing endless youtube videos and it was just more of the same. The TDR on the other hand I also so Rob's in person at OHB, first time I saw a TDR as well. I was blown away, way more then what I had seen on video. Maybe it's an expectation thing, too much for the Goblin and not so much for the TDR, but I was not seduced by the Goblin (or the eXXtreme for that matter) and I was by the TDR. Not only did I receive my new TDR but I bought Rob's one as well. I am not on the pre order for the Goblin nor queuing up for the XX either. I fly fast, big and aggressive and do a bit of smack, just a bit, maybe the TDR better suits me and that's why I lean more towards it. Hope these impressions help you decide. Marcos |

I'll buy Goblin. Not because of Tareq, but because of the design.

Helizen, call Danny at esprit (F1rocket) I am almost sure he has flown the TDR with HC3X. His company sells HC3X so he knows it. Also Smacktalk's Bert Kammerer just released a video about the Goblin. I really enjoyed it, I paid a couple bucks just to see the thing! It is a cool heli and he flies it at low and high headspeed. But I did not get "Goblin Envy" after watching it. I thought I might but after checking it out I just felt like "whatever, I got a TDR!"

Is he trying to attract crocodiles or something? I'd think there'd be a lot of open spaces in Africa.

I think the e720 is the perfect smack heli and there's nothing to complain about than their price politics, at least here in Europe. By the way I just got my Suzi Laos, Hensleit-style Trex-based 800-class machine yesterday... I love the big 800-size carbon canopy About Goblin... we'll see... I hope quality is okay and gears can take some beating... at least my Goblin will get a terrible 16s powercroco and I don't think they tried that... -Klaus

I agree with marcosp. Sometimes seeing a heli in person may change your perception. I too was not impressed a lot with xxtreme after seeing it in person at 3d masters in Venlo. On other hand, I saw a TDR for the first time in person. I hated its looks but loved the flight..gradually I started admiring its looks as well |

I think the Goblin and the TDR have different purposes in the market. I view the TDR as a pure boutique heli. I'm not bashing that, but let's face it... You will wait for the kit and you will wait for parts. The TDR is like a Kontronik ESC (best in class). The Goblin is kind of a middle-ground heli that is between a boutique heli and say a brand like Align. Think of the Goblin as a bridge between the off-the-shelf, major brands and an expensive boutique heli.
If you already have a TDR, you might not be impressed with the Goblin. If you fly a non-boutique brand it may very well catch your eye. I want a Goblin just because it is different, and it would seem that Goblin parts will be readily available here in the US after manufacturing ramps up and the model distribution starts.

I think a lot of the comments from the TDR faithful are a bit of a wait and see without holding too much judgement. My fingers are crossed and hoping for the best for all new helis coming out. The more the merrier and the more competition and innovation the better!

If the market absorbs it, otherwise some other company will suffer or even disappear as many have over the years. We know the mass market helis have strong sales, so you bet who's at risk. It's the law of economics, but marketing hype is not healthy, I don't mind healthy competition as long as it's based on true attributes.

Hardly a fair fight posted in the TDR Forum. Speaking from someone who pre-ordered the Goblin so of course what I am getting is best.
1. TDR is Proven, and been through revisions already. - 1 Point TDR 2. Goblin is new, no one is really sure - minus 1 Point Goblin 3. Cost - About the same - Zero points to either 4. Flight Characteristics - It "appears" the Goby is more of a smack heli, TDR is more speed big air, refined - Maybe this is a design difference. (Yes I know the TDR can do smack) - This is preference - Zero Points to both Bottom Line - TDR is a no brainer, it's a known quality Goblin is more of a risk, looks good, but who knows what Goblins will come out of the closet after release.

I just downloaded the TDR for Realflight from the Knife Edge Forum swap page and flew it for awhile, it flies nice and looks great.
http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/down...e_Rigid_EA.rfx Didn't see one for the Goblin...

TDR is not boutique heli. It may look as that, but is not. It is build for every day flying, i believe even the manual says that Jan do not want it to be only for occasional weekend flying.
It is like Porsche, you have something different, but it could be used every day for your trips to work. I have only a TDR, it is working just right for me and i was flying it almost every day last year, i have over 650 flights on it with only minimal (preventive!) maintenance. Maybe the Goblin will be the same or better, but i will not change, because i verified TDR is currently the right heli for me.

I have my old Hyperions with 300+270 cycles in the fridge and i have 40+40 cycles on my Billowy packs, so i should be around 650.
I want to build new better TDR and sell the old one with the Hyperion packs, nothing is wrong with the old one, i just want to make one more step forward (HV servo, 4525). I am taking my time, the plan do build second one is about year old.

Now that the wait is short is a good time, right?
