One way bearing replacement
My one way bearing let go on my 600L. I can't get the bearing to move. I saw a bearing press on youtube but can't find a place to buy one. Does anyone have experience with this, where can I get a bearing press that will work on it?
Thanks. |

Not sure where to locate a small press, I've been able to use my vice to press out one way bearings by using sockets from my sockets set, and several small pieces of wood to protect metal finish.

On your new 600L kit? You should contact Align, they would replace it. It shouldn't fail that quickly. No way.
I always get my parts serviced by Align when its a defect. They almost always come through. That being said, if I were to replace it... I'd just buy the main gear case set. It comes with the bearing pre installed. For 23 bucks. The bearing costs 8 bucks. |

This is the bearing removal tool that I bought for my 600, but I don't recommend it. It works great at getting the bearing out, but the head pivots, so it sucks at getting the bearing back in. It goes in all cock-eyed. Also, its only useful for this one thing. Instead, I recommend that you get: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-hal...ress-3551.html Then use sockets, like Wattflyer suggested, to press out anything you need.

A suitably sized socket or similar and a hammer will shift it. The hammer will of course damage the bearing but as the bearing is knackered already that's not an issue.
A vice will do it too and is a bit less neanderthal. I'd highly recommend use of green Loctite when you put the new one in. Without Loctite they can spin in the housing and you lose drive.

A 1 ton arbor press is sold for around 40 bucks at Harbor Freight if there is one close by. That and the appropriate sized socket wrench will work.

I use my vice and a collection of sockets to press my one ways back in, but haven't had a failure in almost 5 years now since bagging the align bearing in favor of a much higher grade aftermarket version. I only fly KDE gears and hubs now since I abhor the align wobble, and the fact the gears rotate out of round. My mod 1 has survived several catastrophic crashes, as well as a nasty chicken dance with little damage.
I also lubed it with a product called Diamond Lube. In fact my entire fleet flies now with this lube on or in the one ways. Zero failures as of yet. I bought a super cheap bearing press on a clearance sale at HD for roughly $4 that works fantastic. I have only used it once in six years now though......
