So, to all of you that have passed this phase. What model can I use if I want an electric heli that fly near my electric PANTERA in the Phoenix sim. I found information but, it related to a Nitro version. And at least for me I need more concrete specifications in the fins. For example :
1. Decrease tail fins, but how much? And why? 2. The KW of the motor scorpion. Phones has 1.5 KW. What that means in relation to real KW of an electric motor. Thank you. |

with regard to size of the fins, you'll notice that the Pantera has a skeletal 3D style for both the vertical as well as the horizontal fin.
In flight, the horizontal fin has a very negligible (if any) effect on the model. I have flown without the horizontal fin and found no difference in the flight characteristics. There's just not enough flying surface there to matter one way or the other. If it were s solid fin (as in the stock sticker is applied to the fin), then you may actually notice a small trim change as the model flies faster and faster (just theorizing here - no actual experience to say for sure). Like the horizontal fin, the vertical fin in it's skeletal form has little (if any) aerodynamic influence on the model during flight. It's primary purpose is to stick down low enough to act as a tail rotor guard, preventing the tail rotor from striking the ground during a nose high attitude (like during landings). While the length of the fin does offer some protection against a tail rotor striking the ground, it is still quite easy to have a helicopter in such a high alpha attitude that the tail rotor will strike the ground. If the vertical fin were solid, or covered with the stock sticker, then it may offer some minor level of lateral (yaw) stabilization during forward flight. So... make the horizontal fin as small as you wish. Make the vertical fin long enough to help keep the tail blades out of the dirt during minor contact in a nose high/tail down attitude. In both cases, the weight of the fins is perhaps the primary issue. The heavier they are, the more tail heavy the Pantera would tend to be. In other words, the weight of the fins affect the Pantera's center of gravity more than they create aerodynamic forces.

Also, note 1 hp is 746 watts so 1.5 KW is about 2 hp (think OS 50 Hyper). If you fly with an ESC capable of giving you data, like the ICE series from Castles its not tough to determine what you're actually using in the way of power. Finally, as an aside, in mid-June we're introducing the ProModeler DL-series, a line of nine ESC ranging from 20A through 200A. They're all equipped with onboard RAM and thus, data logging capability. You'll be able to download temp, RPM, current, voltage, and throttle output to a computer for subsequent analysis. The default data rate is 3 samples per second but can be adjusted to your needs (there are 256KB of RAM). The 100A, 150A, and 200A (but not the 120A) are HV units, e.g. 51V max for 12S LiPo packs. Anyway, I'm in the process of setting pricing and thus, while it's yet to be determined, I think you guys all know I am reasonable and fair about these things.

Search around, IIRC The Dude had uploaded/posted a Pantera for Realflight..could possible start with that and convert to electric.
