Help! Need 16T pinion for 6mm shaft, MOD. 8
I searched on line a few days ago and found one for a Fusion 50 that is the right mod, teeth, and bore, but is 2X too long with a tapered base, the gear meshes very close to the base of the pinion where the base is, so the pinion is unusable. Any suggestions? I was hoping to fly this weekend but that looks out.

Hey Matt
Is there no machine shop close by to you that could turn the motor shaft back down to 5mm? only need about .040 off the diameter(1/2mm per side)....

I wouldn't really know who to ask and I work 12 hrs per day so getting to one is kind of a pain. Probably easier to cut the pinion down, but I think I'd need to have both ends cut down to keep the hole in the right place for the set screw. What a pain in the ass. Plus the point of buying the motor was because I didn't want to horse around with trying to replace the shaft.

The grub screw is too close to the tapered base, so I think cutting the pinion down is out.

ARGGH! "Murphy's Law"in action....What motor did you get again? Do they offer a different size shaft like Scorpions?

It's a Turnigy Typhoon 600 from a hobby king. I bought as a replacement because I dropped the motor once and I noticed a slight vibration on the bench. The motor now comes with a 6mm shaft instead of 5. I

Now the plan is to attempt to cut the Fusion 50 pinion down enough so that I can turn it around with the tapered base at the end of the shaft and have the grub screw reach the shaft. Right now, turning it around, the pinion is so long, the grub screw hole isn't even over the shaft.

I run these Rhino pinions in my setup. I'm not following this thread to closely, but would inverting the pinion, with the grub screw (base) at top solve the problem?
On my setup, I needed to file the base plate a bit so the pinion would seat close to the motor also. I have used both approaches at various times. I assume this is the pinion your are thinking of: http://www.heliflightcenter.com/Rhin...r1179-16ss.htm |

Re: Help! Need 16T pinion for 6mm shaft, MOD. 8
I just finished messing around with it. I cut about 3 mm off the pinion and inverted it. The grub screw is at the very end, slightly off the end of the shaft, so I used a small dab of red locktite to make sure it holds. Also had to remove the spacers on the motor to get everything to line up. I was also upgraded my servos to some Promodeler ones. I obviously have not flown it yet but an amazing amount of flex came out of the system. I can do the rabbit ear thing now with 550 blades without the droop.

What about a motor spacer
Hi Matt,
I'm about to use the same pinions for my H550. I'm thinking that a spacer between the motor and the motor mount plate will provide more depth for new pinion. It all depends on what length of the motor shaft is machined with the "flat" for the grub screw. Do you think a spacer would alleviate or solve the problem? Mark |

Re: Help! Need 16T pinion for 6mm shaft, MOD. 8
If you use a spacer, you have to remove too much material from the mount.. It becomes too narrow. You can grind down the mushroomed base of the pinion to make it fit up through the motor mount. Or a combination of widening the mount slightly. I wound up cutting off about 4 mm of the pinion, inverting it, and found that you still have to grind down the base end (now pointing down) so it doesn't chew up the frame. Mine still rubbed slightly on the frame and I filed a bit of clearance. I had to run my servo wire outside the frame.
Because I inverted mine, I needed to remove my spacers to line up the teeth. Matt

Did you have any luck? I think the pinion will work in either direction, but I think either way requires some cutting and grinding. Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk

After all that work, I think I need more head speed. I'll try a 50 tooth front main gear instead of the 60 I have, but I'll have to put spacers of some sort on the bell cranks to have clearance for the motor. I used my phone app and am getting 1900 rpm on 550 blades with some tail blowout on pitch pumps, and my climb is slower than I remember last year. Beginning to think my old motor beats the new one.
