Default Assault 450L

Has not been discussed before - but seems like nice kit:
Assault 450 & 450L kit - HobbyKing Daily (6 min 27 sec)

HK link

seems like good way to upgrade from regular 450 to bigger blades and better battery placement ?

Interesting. I replace the frame on my Align 450L with the ALZRC frame, just for easier front TT drive gear changes. This HK one looks extremely similar to the ALZRC 450L.
http://www.alzrc.com/en/ProductView.asp?/1255.html

The frame I got:
http://www.alzrc.com/en/ProductView.asp?/1251.html

I see others posting that this HK kit is "same as the Gartt" 450L. IDK if that is exactly same as the ALZRC or not.

The ALZRC is all I can speak to, it differs from the Align 450L in:
- Front TT/boom mount is different. I consider this a good thing (and the reason I bought it) as you don't have to split the frame to replace front TT drive gears.
- Anti rotation bracket and where it mounts is different than Align, I like the Align one better but it doesn't work with the ALZRC frame.
,- Tail servo mount is slightly different than Align.
That all I remember, I may be forgetting something.

Assault 450L and Gartt 450L are exactly the same kit with different canopies.

HobbyKing just rebrands a Gartt kit. Gartt makes all of the newer HK kits.

Its 90 bucks. Very interesting. I can say that Gartt does a good job cloning the Vbar. I wonder if they have improved this any for HobbyKing. It looks more refined.. perhaps just the color finish though.

Anyway, it always cracks me up how HK introduces it like its new and not an identical clone that of Align's. "This is a brand new model" then goes on to describe it like we don't already know what it is.

I owned the Gartt 450L. It was a nice flying and quiet heli. I sold it to fund some upgrades on my X5, otherwise I would still have it. If it was more resilient in crashes, I would probably buy another.

All I really did to modify was add some shims to the torque tube gears to reduce the backlash.

What and where did you use to shim out the backlash?

I used these. Put them in on the umbrella gears as needed. I think I only needed them on the rear.

How'd you put them? Like sis you put them inside the housing or outside right behind the umbrella gear?

I put it on the umbrella gear, then put a bearing on. Then inserted the umbrella gear into the tail case an installed the second bearing.

Another thing I just caught. The 450L has the helical cut main gear as well. So the ultimate cloner beater bird:

Assault 450L 91.49
Turnigy HV servos or even Tarot Alpha combo pack- 145.90
NTM 1700kv 18.10
Gartt K Bar 40.00
YEP 40- 20.85
A decent BEC (Polaris)- 35.00

351.34

The real thing from Align ? 492.00 Only saving a 140 bucks. Not enough for me. That 140.00 bucks went into research development and quality materials. But it would make a nice rekit after a nasty crash. Instead of totalling the entire heli.

I saw hobbyking sell the 450l assault kit it said 3s. Wonder can I be able to use 6s right out from the box or have to get pinion and gears??

It comes with an 11T pinion on a 130 main gear. So yes it's geared for 6s. A simple pinion change would get you where you want though. Probably cost about 5 bucks.

It has the wrong battery listed in the description. But the gearing tells the story.

Well an 1800kv motor would give you a max headspeed of 3381. So you can kinda get an idea from there. Align's 450L is geared with the 11T on a 121 gear. With an 1800kv motor it gives a max headspeed of 3633. So the cloner is geared to spin slower. I'd get the NTM motor from HobbyKing if you want inexpensive.

Just a quick question as I'm looking to go back to electric one of these after selling my nitro heli, with the whole amps vs volts equaling the wattage or actual power of the motor 'thing', do you really need to run a 6s 1100mah pack, or can I get away with a 3s 2200mah pack with these larger 360mm blades if all your wanting is a more stable 450L (with a bigger disk) to just do mild aerobatics's?
IE - can anyone who has run the bigger 360mm blades on 3S confirm or deny if it's usable for sport flight when you have the right motor/gearing combo?

Ive read many forums of people doing this to their 3s pro dfc. Basically they put on the L boom and a set of 360 blades and that's it. So I would imagine that just going w the 3s setup on the L and throwing some 360s on will do you just fine.

This drives me absolutely insane and leads to so much confusion about understanding the force of voltage and its benefits.

P(W) = I(A) × V(V) - This formula is the expression of "electrical power". Electrical power is defined as the rate of energy consumption in an electrical circuit.

When comparing battery sizes among different voltages, you're right using P= Amps x Volts. But you said power of the motor. Its not the power of the motor, its the estimated power consumed in the circuit. Huge difference. Power Output of the motor is calculated from the measuring the speed and torque of the motor. That is the power of the motor. Like the horsepower in your car.

This little discrepancy had half the internet convinced that 6s and 3s voltage were no different. Its my mission in life to bury this error. Every time I see it... I cringe.
