Try contacting them some Chinese companys have good customer service. Hobby king for instance. You could also try KDS emails cost nothing and you never know unless you try. Hope you have better luck with the next one. Ivor

Just done the coversion to my GP750 gyro. Works a lot better than the FM gyro and I also have full TX control over it. Unfortunetly there is no 'manual' gain set facility on this gyro so I have to use the gear channel for rate/hh.

That unfortunetly leaves me with limited control over FM, I have position or balancing but no off yet. Haven't figured this out on the DX7 yet

EDIT:
Found a fix by mixing the idle up switch into AUX2 so when on NOR=FM is Off, ST1&ST2=FM is On. NOR & ST1 have the same Throttle and Pitch curves and ST2 is idle Up.
The AUX2 switches the FM modes 0=Position mode and 1=Balancing mode.

So gear is for gyro and aux2 on a three way switch or if two way switch to be mixed with one other switch.

The GY401 should connect to channel 4&5 of the RX as per normal with the tail servo to GY and the blue wire from FM to aux2 channel. The grey and green wires from the FM stay disconnected and the tail servo conection on FM remains vacant.

Hope that is clear, you didn't say which TX you are using.
hi,
i use an external gyro (gp750), and
ch1: 3wire
ch2: yellow
ch3: esc
ch4: gp750 rudder
ch5: gp750 gain
ch6: orange
ch7: blue.
via sw-b (ch7) can changed between balancing(red+green) and positioning(green fast blinking) mode.
all swash's direction for each stick moving is correct.
the gyro is lock.
but swash-direction is unchange when the heli lean to all side. is the fm off? how to make on?

Unplug the blue wire from channel 7 of the RX and see that in Helibal gain is set to 70 and see if you can get it to work like that. You don't say what TX you are using.

If it does work then go to the ATV's of the switch on ch 7 if it is a two way program the to +75% and -75%. If you have a three pos switch so 0% is for off.

I saw no reaction of swash plate, when helicopter leaned to left/right/front/rear-side. led was red/green and balancer gain is -70.

Handsfree is still not working.

You should have flashing or full green to be on pos mode for complete hands free. Works best outdoors or where high contrast for the CCD to lock on. If you get trimmed just perfect
You can also acheive it.

A little video I did today, towards the end I got reaasonable trim to do some hands free in my living room

OK, first level your swash with FM off. When you connect battery be sure the heli is on a level surface and cyclic trims are at zero. Spool up in pos mode till light on skids, don't lift off just see where she wants to go, throttle down trim a bit AIL/ELV repeat until it feels the heli will lift off near level. If pos is working then you can fine trim while in the air. If you can't manage then land and trim more.

After a few of those you will learn how your combo works and will be able to do this with your eys shut

All I can say that by the time you install and set up FM you are no noob anymore Also FM is suppose to help you for stages beyond tail in hovering meaning it is a requirement to at least master at tail in hovering to be able to get FM dialled in properly.

Sorry to hear about crashing, hope damage not too bad and that you are airbourne soon, be carefull and good luck.

test indoor: heli is near level in positioning mode (green flickering) ca 5 cm from ground.

If green is flickering then it automatically switches over to BAL mode. You need enogh light contrast for green to be ON for POS mode but well done. You are well on your way now

Default External Gyro with a 6ch ??

I have an RDS8000 I have a 8ch and 6ch receiver. I am setting up a 450 with the FM and a spartan gyro. I think I have figured out how to link everything up with a 6ch receiver please let me know if I am missing something.

1. Setup FM to switch in idle up modes N,1,2 run blue wire to gyro gain switch (Rate/Hold)

2. Leave gain wire from gyro unplugged or use Y connector ??

3. If Y connector is used then is it okay to switch gyro modes while going through flymentor mode's ?

Hi JD The FM requires NEG-ZERO-POS for full control and that can either be achieved with a slider or three way switch if available set ATV -100, 0, +100 where the ATV values will be Pos and Bal gains and 0=Off. If not you need to use two switches mixed one for on/off and the other for Pos/Bal. I use this method with seven channel Tx(DX7)/Rx(AR7000) because I reserve the gear channel which is dedicated to the external gyro (GP750). I have FM off in Normal flight mode and on in both idle up modes at the moment with AUX2 switching FM between Bal/Pos. If you use the Spartan gyro and don't have the USB link you definitely need the gyro sense to perform setup of the gyro as well as Rate/HH gains. On the other hand you can use Pos and Off only on FM because if FM's CCD can't affirm enough info to work with it will default to Bal mode but still not with 6ch. If you want to fully run an external gyro using a Y connector, this will either compromise FM gains (critical) or gyro gain both undesirable. So the long and short of it that 6 channels will seriously limit your options. Hope this is of help.

Makes alot of sense I wanted to use a 6ch to cut down on the amount of stuff I had to pack into the heli so I guess it's the 8ch I will be using then. But to answer your question I do have the usb link so I had planed on just locking the Spartan in HH mode and leaving it disconnected from the receiver and using the FM on the idle up switch because the RD8000 allows you to set up different gyro values for each flight mode. For example I had planed to do FM off/POS mode in normal flight and Bal/Pos mode in flight mode 1,2

Do you really need POS in idle up modes, I would do BAL/OFF for flight mode 1 & 2 but it is your call:o

Hey guys,

I'm very new to the flymentor. Trying to set one up on a tricopter (that already flies OK) using a 7 chnl RX and 9CHP Futaba TX.

I'm using a 401 for yaw and really do not want to use the FM gyro. Do I have to have the FM gyro plugged in at all for the system to work? Maybe a really basic question but I can't decide if the stabilization is based upon the FM gyro (and/or camera) or is all stabilization done in the "little black box".

Thanks
