The idea being in that when you have 2 carbon sheets which are pressed together and held eith bolts but with a spacer In between , the whole construction is not liable to bending .
So it stiffens the side while adding little weight.
The ones in alu cnc are for keeping the frame from slanting, they look nice yes, but add weight.
For a pure race Heli like Rigid TDR 90 the carbon ones (the ones from JAN) I like very much.

Jan's stiffeners weigh 25.5 grams. So the brace is lighter but we are talking grams here so not really a big deal.

I only weighed the 2 carbon fiber pieces and extra washers because the other screws would be on the TDR regardless.

The sad thing is the Mick bracers are no longer availible. Nore are the ducks.
But by god I hope I'm wrong.
Mailed him several times, I got some replies but never got an answer for payment.

When was Mick selling ducks?

I actually emailed him a couple times last month and never heard back. I hope all is well.

I think he is really busy with work. I think in all honesty he thought he would make 50 or so of them but they became very popular, even if he makes a little profit in reality its not worth his time.

Hopefully he can set the record straight if he will make them again or not

If you want light TDR, Pyro is the right way. If i need stiffeners i dont care about weight anymore because big motors are heavy (Xera 4530 - 530g, 4525LE - 470g, 4530LE - 565g, 4535 - 616g).

15 or 25g in a 5000g heli... Really not even worth a mention...

I run a Pyro, so I put on the X-brace mainly to stiffen the servo mount. Without brace, the frames have some flex.

Do Jan's stiffeners stiffen for a stiff servo mount?

Stiffler.

As I said, the difference in weight/ overall weight for both is no big deal as neither option even weighs an ounce. I was responding Egroeg. He implied that Jan's solution would be lighter and I was simply saying Jan's do in fact weigh more by 10 grams.

I was responding to Egroeg too. He was the one that brought this up...

Maybe I should have quoted him to avoid confusion.

Redlight you indicated that you received the braces in your kit, and I wanted to understand if you ordered the braces separately and were shipped along with the kit or if they were actually part of the kit

The carbon fiber stiffeners were part of the kit straight from Jan.

The brace was purchased separately from Mick.

It was just a joke about the typo (ducts vs. ducks) .

But if Mick really is selling ducks....I'll take two.

Yeah, I haven't heard from Mick in a while, and I hope he's just really busy with work. (And everything is OK).

You're right about making and selling these parts probably not being worth his time... He's got a nice-sized family business down there in Australia, so I'm pretty sure he wasn't making the ducts or braces to make any profit.

Default They take him some time to make as well

I think supplying the entire TDR community with 3 ducts each was more than he wanted. I wouldn't want to do it. Probably made a buck a duck! Not exactly life changing money.

If all else fails I got a pair to ducts very inexpensively from BVM. I posted a link in the sticky above. These are a little larger than Mick's and heavier as well. They do come with a nice template to cut a hole, but there would be some shaping of the area that connects to the canopy.

I would have liked a set of those aluminium stiffeners... But it seems the guy that makes them does not anymore.
So I will be placing a small order to top up the accessories for my Queen of the Air.
( I have the tshirt and car sticker too shhhhhh ) .
By the way I took both the TDR (with two year old Turnigies ) and the VIBE 90 SG ( with OS 105 Reg.) to the field yesterday.
The TDR wins...no contest...I mean that thing is A M A Z I N G
Truly amazing .
