Me and My Neo
Well Doug Darby is fully to blame, he made me buy a Neo
He runs V Control and mine is on a Jeti. There was a bit of a learning curve, most of it self inflicted. I already liked the feel of Vbar Silver that is on one of my gasser Goblins so the gov and rescue was the unknown. I am very happy to report the performance exceeded expectations. Neo was designed to work stand alone or with a remote sensor. I ran it stand alone and see no need for a remote sensor. This is replacing a HC 3SX, my staple on gassers. I tested many FBL and the HC kept getting stuck back on (except for one Vbar). I am finally at a point that when flying fast, the Vbar outperforms the HC. Neo tail feels exactly like Silver. Neo cyclic even set to FAST is SMOOTH, I would say a slight improvement over the Silver. The heli is very calm in fast collective changes like tic tocs and is on rails in FFF which has been difficult for many other FBL units. Rescue - only one choice when inverted, flips and rotates tail 90 degrees, but is very reassuring as the tail rotating helps see the upright orientation. Just like HC/BD, it simply works. Gov - I am picky, I have tried MANY over the years and when flown hard and/or over a wide range of head speeds is when bad tendencies are exaggerated. For me GV1 was the plug and almost play for years, lately the GY701 surpassed the GV1. Both are additional things to purchase and drag along. What's cool is Vbar did testing on a gasser including getting a Stator Gator to work! How many FBL companies have even paid attention to gassers. I copied their setup and it now has become the gov others should be compared to. A few more tweaks may make it even better. The PC software is near identical to the older version used on the Silvers, so the FBL setup is easy and proven. What is a bummer for me is they decreased the number of banks to 3 which are required to change head speeds. Either you run a normal and two idle ups or 3 idle ups with no normal curve. A PC is required to make changes. V Control handles this much better, they can change HS in the TX, normal TX pilots may want more. Here are a few short videos showing the gov performance at 1400, 1800 and 2050 head speeds. Leviathan Goblin, TRM VX300, Cyclone 715's, Quick Draw tuned pipe with 6" silencer.

Neo RPM sensor port is at full RX voltage. The Stator Gator needs 5 volts, this can be accomplished with a small and light $2 voltage regulator as suggested on the Vstabi site. Here is my version, used a 6" servo extension and stuck the regulator on top of the JR connector.

Doug and I have done a few versions, this plate locks the tail boom screws and is the perfect platform to hold the electronics on a 700 Goblin. I tried for less than 1 ounce and got pretty close. Most wall thicknesses are .04 - .05". Second photo was in process and went back for more trimming.

Well that is good news, as I just ordered my neo yesterday
I ended up going the 3D printed route on my fbl mount on the 570 and 700. I'm starting to find 3D printing very handy for these little mounts.

Very thorough description Tom. Glad it's working well for you.
The locking plate is very nicely done. Mike designed and printed one he is using that is also very sweet. If all goes well Mitch will have printed me one of Mikes design to try. Nice report from a guy that has pretty much flown them all.

Very nice plate Mike.
Don't be afraid to crank up the agility, it gets nice and quick without getting nervous.

Yes it replaces the CF plate that locks the plastic bolts. I made it.

Do you gents have any advice on throttle setup? Vbar is a little unique as to my understanding it only uses the throttle channel as a switch for the gov.
Currently I don't understand how to setup your throttle cut, or vary idle when the motor is cold vs hot.

For non-V control users -
Head speed is set through the banks as well as idle and throttle hold. You can set a throttle cut in theTX. In Gov 1, set to nitro In Gov 2 set to direct throttle for bank 1 he throttle is now "normal" in bank 1. This allows for 2 banks for gov head speed. You have the option to have all three banks as gov and no normal curve, but warming up the engine is then not possible. The gov works excellent but I really enjoy 4 head speeds and a normal curve, the GY701 went back on.

fastflyer20,
Have you tried the Spartan Vortex in you Gobby? What are your thought with the VX1n?

I did try it around a year ago. It was good in stationary maneuvers but had a major pitch up in extremely FF. Reps tried helping but we were unable to get rid of it. Gov worked but not as good as some others. Newer software may have improved on these characteristics.

Where do you find the plans for printing the 3D plate. I have a printer and it would be an awesome addition to my goblin. If no plans would someone be interested in selling one?

I made a few spare aluminum plates, double and single, if anyone is interested.
The FBL mounts to one side allowing for easy removal of the plate to access the boom without pulling the FBL unit. Pictures with it installed are above.
