Default Align Dominator BL850MX Super Hot

I have the Align BL850MX motor with the Phoenix edge esc on my Trex 800. I noticed that the motor gets super hot after about 5 minutes of flight. Is this normal or do I need to be concerned? My head speed on normal mode is 1750, stunt 1 1850 and stunt 2 1950.

Just bought a TREX 800 myself and have an offer on an 850MX. But I do know you need to change the gearing. INstead of the 110T main you need 112T. The pinion needs to be a 12T. You got these?

Dont know how much differnce these make for temps.

My Q in addition to the OP is that if I do change the gearing DO I NEED to get the tail drive gear and swap out both the front and back sets of tail gears?

I have the 112T main gear and 12T pinion on my 800. To answer your question about the tail drive, you don't need to swap out the tail gearing.

esc settings I use 12 frequency and 10ish gov gain on a castle. They land warm for sure, how hot and what kind of flying.

My pwm rate is 12khz and I'm using 6 gain on my esc. No hard core 3d just regular circuits around the field. It's hot to the touch after flying for about 4 minutes.

ya thats normal, don't sweat it. After hard 3d my friends is hot enough you can just touch it for a nano second, impossible to keep fingers on it. Been like that for years.

You got to remember when you land and hit TH the motor expels heat to the motors can/outside. So while in flight its actually operating at a cooler temp do to the air going through the motor.

I had similar heat issues/concerns. Reducing motor timing to low (0) and PWM to 8 Khz lowered the temps on the motor, ESC, and batteries.

FYI, I run VBAR GOV at 1800, 1900, and 2000.

Cheers,

Mike
