Oldish git??? Welcome to the club! I hear so many young ones around. They're giving me lessons. I enjoy my TDR a lot! Good to know I'm not the only old one around.

Default TDR II Build

The TDR is THE helo for the "older" pilot. Big Air aerobatics, speed and smooth low and mid rpm 3D! And have a look at Jans Team: No young guns there, Tobi Wilhelm is the yoingest I guess, but even he is not that young anymore and a very skilled pilot and instructor!

Yes a gentlemans helicopter indeed, more than that though, you can still dabble nicely with 3D moves but not into the crazy smack stuff that the young wipper snappers are into.
Good to know that there are plenty of middle aged types in the hobby, checked out the "Old Farts" thread so we are not alone.

Just a thought, now useing the nyloc nut on the head bolt, it is now standard, didnt try and tighten so much this time, recon enough to clamp the head so that there is no movement on the shaft is enough torque.

Ah, misunderstanding, yes TDR can do smack and just about anything, just saying that it was something I am not into so much, cant beat eating up sky with huge loops and fast speed runs and contrast that with some smooth low HS sessions etc .

This video probably sums it up by Timo:
TDR - old school 3D (8 min 3 sec)

Like a comfortable sports car with a turbo switch.

Slow 3D needs MUCH MORE control than hard smack, as you can't hide a bad cyclic input with a hard collective jab and vice versa. LOVE the slow REAL 3D that only a light and true helicopter can give you. The newer designs need insane head speeds to just stay airborne not for me.

I love smooth 3d, that is what drew me to the TDR. It's such a graceful and versatile heli. When I finally saw one fly in person last year I knew I had to have one. The TDR makes a big impression even if you're not the one on the sticks, you can tell how light it is just by the sound and the way it dances through the sky. It's a unique heli to be sure and I think it's obvious to the most casual observer.

Now this guy can fly! Excellent! I wish I could do 10% of that. You flew 8 minutes in a stick of power? As a punishment you should share your setup with us.

Awesome flying! Tip my hat off to you!

Default New solid shaft fitted

Took a while to get here but fitted the solid shaft, it weighs about 90g as opposed to 60 for the hollow version.
Should have taken about 20 mins, head off, jesus bolt out in situ carefully pull out shaft, insert new etc.
But no! shaft was stuck quite fast, TDR is like a chinese puzzle trying to get the gear out with shaft, half the mechanics removed and 2 hours later had it sorted out, the old shaft was a tight fit, new was just right for some reason, maybe the gear flange didnt relax after removing the jesus bolt.

Just unscrew the delrin gear in situ, easy as pie then to remove the main shaft without the gear.

An outstanding job, Cyprus.....

I'm now on the list for the TDR-II.

I was wondering if I could use a Kosmik, as I use the 200HV on my 700/800XX Logos.....and apparently I can.

And I really like your Kos fuse adapter assembly....

There's a thread, I think on the Kos forum, in which a poster found these:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/BURNDY-14-8-AWG-Copper-Alloy-Mechanical-Lug-KA8CBAG2R/202941399

Over here, Home Depot stores are everywhere, so these devices would seem to be a suitable adaptation of your method....and easily available....and cheap...

On the above part, one removes the screw in the lug, and then use a "shunt" wire of suitable gauge size to fill the gap...and apply solder.....followed by heat shrink.

With 2 of these, to reverse the fuse direction, I think they will clear the top of the Kos
mechanical enclosure....like in your pic.....

I'll get some tomorrow and see if they will work "up to snuff".

BTW, nice flying...looks fantastic in the air.

FWIW

I wish my flying was that good, the video I mentioned was Timo Wentland from Germany, used to be on Jan Henseleit's team, but something to aspire to.
The fuse idea has worked out fine, no TDR falling from the sky, after all its fairly simple, just need materials to cut for insulators and spacers.
Really fancy a 3D printer, be easy then to make bespoke items that are not stress critical but cannot yet justify the cost or think what else I could use it for.

The title of this thread is so misleading. Every time it pops back up to the top, I think ...Cool new pics of the TDR II, only to remember it's not.
