What's up with this new carbon you found new beee? Dpp? Do you have a link?
I found wrapped 3mm cf road at speed wing hobbies but he never shipped it and it went to PayPal claims. But that's another story.

That stuff is chewing up drill bits like candy ;-) It does require you turn it down some. I just stick it in the drill and run sandpaper down it three or four times. Test fit with bearing.

Not sure why I can't get that to link up right.

How are you guys using the jig? I've tried to make a few shafts and each one ends up with the holes out of center, thus wobble on the head block and terrible vibrations.

make sure you tape that shaft to the jig so it wont rotate. are you using a dremil or by hand to drill out the holes?

Drill press works best but if you are real careful and toss the ones you mess up then a hand drill works.

Ok, just broke my first shaft and need to fabricate one quick. We are meeting up to fly tonight.

Anybody know the stock hole location for the collar and then for the head? The shaft I broke was fabricated by someone and it had custom length.

*strikeout*So far, searches have been unfruitful.*strikeout*

As soon as I post, I see this:

I have been using the tape.

I have used both drill press and hand drill. Using the drill press is difficult because the jig won't sit flat due to the shaft protruding from the bottom of the jig.

Just use a couple shims under each side that are the same thickness as the carbon sticking out of jig.I used a block of wood then set my depth on my circular saw to like an eighth in and rip down the center of the wood. Test fit pc. laying flat and see how it works. Adjust depth to your liking. Sit flat on block of wood then drill hole. Perfect mainshaft!

Just a quick note to let folks know that my family and I survived the road/camping trip, despite a resurgence of winter in Yellowstone, a general invasion of Bison in the campgrounds, holes in the ground belching large quantities of boiling water, countless communal bathrooms, and 5k+ miles of driving. (Oh, and continuous, immediate proximity of myself, my wife and my kids for about a month! :-) I will be trying over the next 2-3 evenings to catch up with all those who have left me messages over the past several weeks, and I hope to resume jig production this weekend. If anyone has left me a message, and hasn't heard from me by, say, Saturday night, feel free to ping me again.

Thanks!

Jim

I've always wanted to take a camping trip to Yellowstone, maybe someday. Hope you enjoyed your stay there and glad you survived the trip!

I haven't talked to him in months. Looks like the last time he was on the forums was back in June.

I emailed Jim last month trying to get one of these. He told me he hasn't been making them for a while but would like to get back in the shop making some. He said he would have a update for me later than weekend. I got busy I just got around to emailing him back the other day and haven't heard from him.......

Hey All - Long Lost Jim here. Its been a crazy year (work), and I've been completely out of the loop on most everything that doesn't involve work. (I couldn't even tell you what helis I own any more, its been so long since I've looked at them. )

Anyway, I'm slowly retaking my life, and have begun excavating the mill and stuff from months of "I don't have time to deal with it, so I'll stick it in the shop". I really want (really need!) to get back to making jigs and doing other stuff that I enjoy, and am targeting the end of this month to have things back in sufficient order to do so. (I plan on making good use of the time off next week!)

So, to any and all who have tried to reach me in the past few months, I appreciate your interest, and hope that you'll get back in touch if you are still interested in a jig. (I will comb through my (also neglected) personal email, and will hopefully dig up most of those who tried to reach me.)

Who knows, I might even be able to fly my helis again soon! (IIRC, I think my 130X had a broken main shaft, ironically... :-)

I also need to catch up with where things are with micro helis these days - I have no idea if the mCPX, 130X, etc are even still in production, I've been so far out of touch. Any new super-duper micros hit the scene recently??

Anyway, feel free to email or PM me, and I'll be sure to get back in touch, even if it takes a few days to do so. (Work is better than it was, but still a bit too much of a presence at present. :0)

Jim

Hey All (and Hey Isaac - long time, indeed!!) - after much delay (work, life, flu, rewiring my shop (always fun), etc), I'm back to making jigs. If anyone is in need of a jig, holler, and I'll fill you in on the details.

Who knows, I may even get to start flying my helis again one day soon!!

Thanks!

Jim
