Default mCX2 "crabs" in forward flight

When I push directly forward on the stick, the heli never seems to go perfectly straight ahead - always seems to crab slightly to the right as if I'm inputting right stick as well, but I'm only inputting elevator.

I've noticed this on my Scout as well, and using both the stock RTF (for the mCX2) transmitter and my DX6i, so I'm wondering if this is normal for coax helis.

I know the trim is okay because it hovers just fine.

I was thinking of adding a little left aileron mix to compensate for it, but if it's a problem with a bent shaft or something, I'd just assume fix that, rather than setting a mix to compensate for a damaged part.

Any thoughts?

I remember dealing with the same issue, and I think you're on the right track. If it's properly trimmed for a stable hover, and you're getting a little bit of left/right drift in forward flight, aileron mix on elevator input is the way to go.

My thought is setup the transmitter per the manual and deal with it. If straight ahead is at 11 o'clock on the sticks, so be it. The mcx2 is not a precision piece of machinery.

This assumes nothing mechanically wrong-such as battery interfering with a servo gear.

Agreed, nobody's putting on flight shows with mcx2, LOL.

When I played with it, I thought it was a really cool exercise in getting familiar with my transmitter to 'tune' undesired behavior out of the model. I learned a lot that helped me with the more complex models.

Just because it's a beginner heli, doesn't mean I don't want it to fly straight.

I think that's kind of a silly way to look at it, but that's just me.

I put about 10% aileron mix on it, and cleared it up. Now I don't have to "deal with it"

I doubt many people are putting on flight demos with a nano, either...

But that's what I'm doing with ALL my helis. Messing around with pitch/throttle curves on the nano, and mixing, etc on the 120SR and the mCX2. Works really well for teaching you what each function actually does. It's a lot better than just reading about it.

100% agreed, congratulations on sorting it out!
