Default What did you do with your TDR today ?

I found that by adding a fan to the motor, it cools the internals much better and everything comes down much cooler.

It's a Computer processor's CPU fan.
Here's a link to my thread on how it's done.

WOW!!!! Now that is a plan! Only thing is...its my BEC that is getting hot not the motor.

Very nice mod Lynh! How many flights with MKII? Is the epoxy still holding?

Uvular has been my speed trainer and so far everything is holding together rock solid.
I use epoxy steel this time round too, the original fan hub melted on MKI.

Do you think the same thing will work on a pyro 750 motor? Im keen to apply the same pricipal but a fan spinning at 20,000 RPM just sounds risky?

Won't the fan upset the airflow through the motor, would think it needs to blow air AWAY from the motor to help with the airflow through the motor. Plus using some power from the motor although very little but still eating mAHr from your packs.

Unlike the pyro line of motors which have internal air induction channels in the can to pull out the heat, the Scorpion won't suck any air as it spins.
The can mounted fan works because it is utilising the free momentum from the spinning can and act in a similar principle to a turbo fan design.
Personally, I've found that with the addition of the fan, everything is a lot cooler after multiple flights and the air movement inside the canopy has positive effect on the ESC too.

That is a lot of RPM on a fan!!! I would really like to apply the same principals to my Pyro Motor but I'm a little concerned.

I will however ask Kontronik for their advise and whether they approve

I haven't done the fan mod to my pyro yet because the pyro actually create its own air current from the channels inside the can.

Rest assured I run my Uvular at 2400RPM at the mains so the fan is definitely fine with the high HS.

Scorpion has the same air channels inside like all other motors. So blowing air down on the exit vents will cause the air to stagnate inside the motor. Not a good idea if you ask my opinion, maybe if it blew air away from the motor.....

I see an interesting experiment, measure temps in similar conditions with and without fan.

If you run the scorpion without the canopy and blades, there is no air current around it.

When you run a pyro under the same condition, you can feel the current of air blowing out wards from the can.

I'm positive the original proto D-Speed ran a fan on top of a 4530 Xera similar to Lynh's setup. Santiago's setup maybe?

You got it!

I like the setup. If you can keep the motor balanced - I don't see an issue with this setup particularly for Scorps in highly enclosed canopies....

Good setup I think.....

Got my Cyclones back on my TDR and loving it!

My last flight was 9min 35sec with 3.78v
I ran 1680rpm for much of the flight.

I replaced the mini VBar with the full size unit and am trying a completely different FBL tuning this time around. I should be able to get a flight in today or tomorrow and see if this is better.

I also installed the battery tray system from Sixt in Germany.
