I have been away from the hobby for about 5 years and now I am lost. I was a nitro addict in the past and flew MA helis and the only electric that I ever owned was a small trex 450 running a 3S pack with a flybar. For the last year I have thought about getting back into the hobby and came across a deal on a Futaba 7C and purchased it. During the Christmas holiday I came across what looks to be an Align Trex 600e that seems to be converted to a FBL head and modified to accept a 12s setup. I am having trouble identifying the machine and was wondering if I post some pics and info on the electronics if someone could straighten me out So here is the list of parts on the machine:

Heli : Maybe a Trex 600e that has been converted to FBL
BEC : CC-BEC PRO
FBL : Align 3G FL760
EMC : Castle Phoenix HV85
Motor : HK-4025-630k

That looks a lot like my 600 ESP. I would ditch the 3G FBL unit, and grab a used Vortex, Ikon, or Spirit off the classifieds.

Do you have any specific questions about it?

Yea I read that the Align FBL systems are junk and that some of the other FBL electronics are superior. My other question is do you believe that this heli is a 12s setup?

Definitely. 85 amps is too low for a 6S setup, but perfect for 12S. Also, HV is only needed for >6S setups. Also, the motor Kv is right for 12S, but too low for 6S. Two 3000-3300mah packs will work good for you.

I can't see the battery connector on your ESC though to see if it has the Y harness already. If it doesn't, you'll need to make one.

Correct the Y harness is missing. Attached is a pic of the connectors on the end. In the past I was used to using a Mini Deans, but I think these are 4mm connectors from Castle. Can you confirm?

Those do look like Castle bullets. If your measurement converts to 4mm, then I guess that's what they are.

What lipo packs would you recommend these days? I used to use thunder power brand and was satisfied with them but as always the technology changes every year. Also for the FBL setup, do you have any knowledge of the microbeast systems?

I used Glacier 3300mah batteries in my 600, and am happy with them. Pulse also makes some nice batteries.

I've never used any flavor of BeastX, but there is a BeastX forum where you can get some specific help.

A motor rated at 630kv is most likely a 10s setup (two 5S packs)
A high performance 12S motor is in the 480kv to 520kv.

The HV85 is fine for the heli.

If u decide to run 6S, you need the BL600MX 1220kv motor. And that will work fine with the HV85 ECS.
There are two versions of the Align BL-600MX. A 1220kv for 6s and a 510kv for 12S

The Align 3GX is a good FBL. The 3G is not.

The MSH Brain / iKON is a great little FBL.
There are dedicated FBL forums on HeliFreak.

630Kv can work just fine on 12S. You just need to gear it properly. My 560Kv motor uses a 16T pinion, so a 630Kv motor with a 14T pinion should get him in the ballpark.
