Default IDLE UP FOR INTERMEDIATE DX8 NEWBIES

This document is intended as an introduction to idle up flying for those that began flying with my Beginners settings for MCPX & DX8

See link below for beginners setup!
Link dx8 beginners

Suggested skill level.
Pilot should be able to take off and hover MCPX in most or all orientations.
Pilot should have no problem flying MCPX away from self, successfully do bank turns in both directions return flare and enter a solid hover.

If you cannot hover well in most or all orientations,
Do bank turns left and right.
Fast forward flight flair stop and return to a hover please continue practicing with my beginners setup for newbies as the fallowing setup will significantly increase the power and agility of your MCPX and is not suitable for most first timers.

If you are able to accomplish the above with your DX8 setup Aileron and Elevator settings in the Travel Adjust menu at 40% or 50%.

Congratulations on you achievement so far!

With a little persistence you will have little or no trouble with the fallowing settings.

Turn on DX8
See page 17 of your DX8 Manual, Model Copy.
Make a copy of the helicopter settings from page 6 of the MCPX manual.
Call this helicopter MCPX idle

Note all duel rate switches are in position 0
In the DR Expo menu of DX8

Flying MXPX in idle up mode. Before you turn on your transmitter.
Move Aileron, Elevator and Rudder DR switches to position 0 on transmitter.

Turn on Transmitter.
Set Throttle Hold switch to on position.
See throttle is in lowest position.
Plug in helicopter, set it down, see soled blue light!

MCPX is equipped with soft start.
When ready to fly. Turn off Throttle hold switch.

Move idle up switch from normal mode position to ST-1 position
The tail rotor will start, fallowed by the main rotor.
Only after the main rotor starts to turn! Move the throttle stick to just below mid stick position
and let the main rotor come to flying speed.
The main rotor will take 8- 10 seconds to spool up to full RPM.

Relax!
Make sure you have control of the tail!
Gently move the throttle stick forward and lift the helicopter into the air just as you always have.

The first thing you will notice is the helicopter will climb and descend with much less collective / throttle stick movement. Go easy!

Once hovering you will notice that the helicopter feels much more powerful and it is!
Go very easy on all the controls. Hover around for a battery or two until you get a feel for the power and reaction to control input. The helicopter will defiantly feel more spooky but in a short time it will feel normal.

Landing.
Return to hover and descend as normal. Once on the ground, turn on throttle hold. The motor will stop.
Return the throttle to it's lowest position.
Shut of idle up switch.
Remove Battery

Once you are comfortable the helicopter will do fast forward and turn the same as it did before only better.

If you are up high, pull the stick back to 25% and it will descend much quicker than before!
After a few times you will love playing with this as you can come in high
and drop down level flair and hover.

Once you are completely comfortable with the power of your mcpx and you have no problem flying it
in ST-1 position.

Move Aileron, Elevator and Rudder DR switches to position 1 on DX8, This Changes,
Aileron Rate from 60% to 80% 30 expo
Elevator Rate from 60% to 80% 30 expo
Rudder Rate 80% Expo INH

Aileron, Elevator and Rudder DR switches to position 1 on DX8 as above.
Select Idle up 2 position on the transmitter

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Move Aileron, Elevator and Rudder DR switches to position 2 on DX8, This Changes,
Aileron Rate from 80% to 100% 30 expo
Elevator Rate from 80% to 100% 30 expo
Rudder Rate 80% Expo INH

Select Idle up 2 position on the transmitter

Be advised that this is going to make MCPX very powerful, very fast and exiting to fly!
Go easy for a few flights! You will be able to stand on the 50 yard line and fly around the goal posts without any problem. Once you are comfortable with the helicopter it is 3D capable in this configuration.

I sincerely hope anyone that has successfully made it this far will enjoy the new found power and agility of there MCPX!
Happy flying
Ron

good s*

I forgot you can change the throttle curves in other modes for the Nano CPS. Now I can run a linear curve w/o the computer assistance to practice instead of it getting out of control in doors with super high throttle.
