Default 5084 tail servo getting hot..

I noticed it today just hovering. No serious flying at all. So I don't know why it would be hot? Anyone have suggestions. I got a Quark on it and it's holding rock solid..But it's gonna burn my servo up at this rate. It should be default mode on Quark right? As far as the pulse rate.

Yes, are you sure it is set to 1 flash (defualt)?
may want to double check, just to make sure it didnt get changed.
i had same setup with zero issues.

I personally haven't used Hitechs customer service, never had any issues with any on my hitech servos.
I hear they are very good from others who have, May want to give them a call if cant get it figured out

Here is a list of servos and pulse rate on spartans site

That is what I'm gonna check first. No time last night, so I will check it out this evening! Thanks for the reply.
So if it's set to the right setting, it should not get hot unless it's possibly binding however I never gave it a chance to bind last night, Like I said I was just hovering, I just put it on a bit ago (quark and 5084). I have another 5084 waiting to go onto the 450X, So if it burns up, I'll use it and see if it gets warm. I have a feeling something got switched when setting up.(user error) However this was so ez, maybe too ez! haha.

I would say a little warm is ok, but not hot
I would also check if you have binding in the tail or pushrod, i normally disconnect the pushrod from the servo and move it by hand to make sure its smooth. Then when disconnected (and power off) i move the servo by hand to make sure it is smooth.

Whats your gyro gain at? maybe kind of high, causing the tail to work a lot?
You said it was rock solid , so iam assuming no vibration in tail?

I should a said "Rock steady" as well. This thing is flying more stable than ever it seem with NO vibrations. No blur in tail fin or stabilizer! NONE! It's awsome.
I will check the gain, It might need to come down, it's not wagging however. And as far as I know, there is no binding, R&R'd the tail and put a new pitch slider in and lubed/checked bearings. Both thrust and case bearings.
Could be in wrong mode (gyro) I'm looking there first

Take off the main blades, anchor down the skips, and spin it up when you check for binding.

Also try not to put yourself directly in line with the tail blades. A buddy of mine made this test last week and when he went to full throttle, one of the tailblades let loose! So don't go up to full throttle, because without the mains on, you will get a higher than normal tail rpm. This was a Hobby King heli, so that might account for the blade shedding, but still......

what exactly am I supposed to see? I mean How is that checking for binding? Just asking, I'm listening! With it spooled up half way, srapped down and me away from it, what am I looking at? I can barely see the pitch slider when I'm holding it! I did this to a degree, I did not strap it down and had plenty of room. But as soon as I put the combo on, I ran it up like you spoke of (without strapping it down) to just make sure inputs were correct and no shakes and what not. Seemed good, good enuff to go fly!

just went out and did a test, to see what temp my servo got.
I'am not using the quark anymore, but I'am still using the 5084.
I went flybarless, but should be pretty much the same.
I used a Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer to check before and after.
Before the flight i got 68.8 degrees on the servo
After a 5 minute hover i remeasured and got 78.2 degrees so it didn't go up much at all.
So definitely not hot, not really even warm

Mine was definetly over 100. Body temp around 97 and this felt VERY warm. About like a battery that comes down hot. I could hold it.... But it was too hot. I am curiuos to the above test, with the blades off.

OK. My servo temp was 73 degrees b4 my flight, 4:30 sec of mild hovering and some slow circles and it came down at 139 degrees!
I have no binding. I will try to post a video of the tail if anyone thinks they can see something I can't!
The Quark is in the right mode, blinking only once. I believe that is for the 5084.. So I guess a bad servo? Or could the Quark be bad? Surely 139 is not ok..

You said you had another 5084?
Maybe try it, if it doesn't get hot, it's the servo, if it does it's something else.
If it ends up being the servo call hitech, sure they will help

Im afraid to fly the bastard for fear of tail fail.

I also have the problem with Hitec 5084 servo getting hot. This is the 2nd one getting hot for me. The first failed completely and was sent in to Hitec customer service. They replaced the motor. My set-up is Blade 450 3D / Quark gyro / Hitec 5084 tail servo.
