Default YGE 100, it's inside!

Yesterday my YGE arrived and it fits really nice inside the X5 frame.
(It's the VBar version with speed signal output, for future use.)

I used the ProgCard II from Dutchdontdance (thx!) which makes setup a breeze.

Here are my initial settings to re-maiden it:

- Gov.
- Brake off
- Act. Freew. = on
- P-Gain = 0.9
- I-Gain = 0.05
- Startup Speed = Heli slow
- PWM = 10kHz
- Timing = 18
- Startup Power = 2%
- LiPo, 6 cells, with slowdown @ 3.4V

When the rain stops, I'm testing at the field.

Default Love it!

In between the rain I've done two packs.
Only one word: Awesome!

For now it seems to govern very well.
Have to do some more packs but it feels solid.

However I changed two settings.
When I landed it gave me two beeps, which is under-voltage identification.
With 27% remaining on the charger I changed the cut off voltage from 3.4V to 3.2V

Also for Startup Speed, Heli slow is a bit too slow for my taste.
I changed this to Heli middle.

Only thing left is to tach the bird and tweak gyro gain.

I left my TX at:
N: 75% flat
1: 85% flat
2: 90% flat

Still with the stock 15T pinion.

On IDL1 it feels snappy, IDL2 I notice a little bit more headspeed but I don't feel like needing it.
My guess is that IDL1 is close to 2400 rpm.

I'll let you guys know the exact numbers.

Curious where you got yours from?

What's peoples consensus on say the 80a YGE out of the Protos? What kind current are you guys pulling flying hard 3D?

Hi

We already talked about the YGE in another task. I use the YGE 120 with a 16t pinion which was stock with my FES Kit. With 86% (governor store) I have 2490 headspeed measured with telemetry IISI System. PWM I have on 8kHz, timing as well 18°.

My YGE?
That comes from RigidHeli. (Dutch shop.)

I have no clue about the current, but the stock ESC is also 100A.
For that reason I went with the YGE 100.

My CC ICE 75 does have a logger (on my Align 500) and it pulls 85A max.
Expect the X5 above that.

With 12°+- pitch I have current peaks of max 134 Amps. Lipos SLS APL 4000 mah 45c.

Sounds like a 100a system minimum should be utilized....

Thanks for the info.

I bet it feels like it has more power huh?

When I had that one running last year it was awesome, I sent yge a email and I haven't heard anything back.

It reminds me of my older BMW m5, it was a blast to drive when it wasn't in the shop or waiting on parts, ect

I probably wouldn't do it, but I imagine a 75 amp esc would be fine. The Align 550 is heavier and swings bigger blades on a stock 70 amp esc.

Kind of what I was wondering. The YGE out of the protos is rated for 80a and arguably has a better gov with slightly better power output compared to say an ice 100 and the cost isn't way out of line. With the efficiency of the drive system and light'ish weight means less disk loading.

Not sure what the little YGE can handle for peaks though. 120+a burst is asking a lot I think....

It's a great tool to balance power with flight time.
Because headspeed stays the same it's also perfect to tune gyro gain.

I'm a bit carefull with this but YGE has a proven track record.
I have to see this myself on the long run, but it sounds your YGE problems are just bad luck?
I hope they replace your faulty unit with a brand new one so you can fly the crap out of it.

The Align 550 and Gaui X5 swing both exactly the same blades. (520mm)
I guess it's possible to get away with the YGE80. 80 means the continuous current rating.
Short peaks it can handle much higher.

Out of the box, the x5 swings 500s (at least the kit I'm looking at), while the T-Rex 550 is stock with 520s. They can go up to 520s and 550s, respectively (you know all this I'm sure). So while they can swing the same blade size, I consider them slightly differently.

I guess it's just semantics.

Default Gov. Store mode

Well, today some more packs with the YGE.

Trying to tach headspeed using normal gov. mode is a bit tricky.
When the voltage drops a bit you see a different headspeed.
(iPhone app, doesn't always tach correct at the first shot.)

That's why I went for the Gov. Store mode.
After programming I let the YGE learn headspeed with a flat 100% TC.
(Without main and tail blades!)

After that it's very easy to tach headspeed!
It's always the same and not depending on lipo voltage.

I left it at:

IDL1 - 85% - 2400 rpm
IDL2 - 88% - 2500 rpm

IDL1 feels great for my flying style.

For reference, curious what you had for esc and why the change in this application?

Because of the top notch internal governor.

Looks good. Fits way Nicer than the ice 100. If my ice 100 catches fire I'll get one of these.

Price?

Also, I would put the wires inside te frame to neaten things up. At the same time I would place heat shrink around each individual motor wire to prevent chaffing from the frame. I noticed chaffing on my wires after a number of flights, even though my frames have been anally sanded to perfection .

Compared to the CC ICE100,
43 Euro (around 55 USD) more expensive.
The Kontronik is 184 Euro (around 238 USD) more expensive.
(No way I'll pay that much extra for an ESC ever.)

It does fit much nicer and the governor is great.
(CC is close with v4.01)
I hope it keeps the magic smoke inside.

(I'll check on the motor wires for chafing, thx.)

*much* closer.
But honestly your LHS should take care of you.

If my CC would let the magic smoke out I'll return it to my LHS and not send it straight to the USA.
However my CC is already out of warranty, guess at that point I can only send it straight to Castle.
