Default KST servos

Hi, would like to hear your experience with the following HV servos on a 500 machine.

The cyclic KST DS 515 MG, or the brushless counterpart KST BLS 505 (Turnigy TGY-505 BL).

Tail brushless servo KST BLS 505X (Turnigy TGY-505 HS).

All those look quite interesting!

I haven't seen or used the 505 servos, but the coreless versions are great

Brushless servos good option as they draw less current and may last longer.
Mateyhv let us know which path you will take

Deep servo cases as the brushless ones mentioned above will not fit between the frames. My ESP frames are 39mm and later version are narrower as i know, around 34mm as i recall

I bought 3 Turnigy TGY-505BLs and a Turnigy TGY-505HS back in April as I was interested in a mini brushless servo. I'm the one that left the only review on the Hobbyking site. Initially I placed them in a 500 beater, and they performed flawlessly- Fast, good centering, good torque, etc. I had enough confidence in them that I took them out of my beater and placed them into a brand new Goblin 500. I had to build an adapter to get the 505HS to fit, but I've now had 20+ flights in the Goblin, and they still fly work great. I am using them with an Ikon and running them at 8.4 V with a Hobbywing 100 amp V3 ESC. At this time, I am quite impressed with these servos. Unfortunately, a lot of Hobbyking products work great initially, but don't have the greatest lifespan, but based on my other experience with KST servos (the OEM manufacturer) I am cautiously optimistic.

You are correct. Spacers are needed to make it fit in a T-Rex 500.

Finally I took the DS515MG as its the only one that fits the ESP frame and the BLS 505X. Both perform great! I have had no issues with them running on 7.4 and later on 8v. The only caution is if you have a Castle 10A BEC or any other slow initial ramp bec, that would make some of the servos to not initialize properly. Each first flight or if the gap between flights is longer than 3-4 minutes the tail servo fails and 1 out of 10 times one of the cyclic servos also does. Replug the battery and everything is OK. Thas is normal behaviour with HV servos.

I have the KST DS515 on mine as well. I'm very pleased with them so far. They are super smooth, fast, and have very little play in the gears. I can't say I've noticed a huge performance difference yet over stock servos, but I have not run them HV yet either.

So, I am not sure, so I'll ask:

Would the KST DS515MG fit on the cyclics of a 500E Pro (flybarred super combo, part #KX017015) ? What about KST BLS505 for cyclics and BLS505X for rudder?

I know that in the 500E Pro you must mount the mini tail servo in the frame of the 500E Pro, however, what about tail boom mounting with Trex 600 servo mounts?

PS: There is also the BK DS-7005HV with a mini-top for an awesome rudder servo. I assume it would fit in the frame mount with that mini-top.

Yes the DS515 fits in the pro frame. I'm not sure about the 505 as it looks like they are a bit deeper, might have to use spacers. The 505x should fit the tail without modification. I'm running the BK 7005 with mini top on mine and it will fit through the frame with a slight modification for the motor to clear:

After 100 flights on my new KST cyclic servos there`s a little play in gears developed, food for thought... had to fly 300+ flights with align 510M servos to see such a slop approx. 2mm.

I had same issue with kst`s in my 500. Noted after close inspection that the slop is not gear induced. The pins on which gears are supported develop movement within the case over time. What I found worked to take play away was to slightly sand the top case of the servo on some fine sandpaper. This gives a sturdier hold on the pins when refitted taking away the play of the gear train. Be carefull not to sand to much alu of the case since it will cause gears to bind when refitted.
