Default N5C FBL Main Head (Too much play)

I have been having problems with my brand new N5C main head. When I assemble the head per the instruction manuel I can pull the grips apart by 2-3MM. I then add 1 extra shim to each side, and now one side is too tight. Has anyone had this problem, and can it be fixed?

There are 3 different thickness shims included in the kit. The thinnest (0.5mm) should go inside the grips, between the thrust and radial bearings. On the outside, I recommend using the thickest (1.0mm) to eliminate lateral play. If it's too tight and binds up, something is not right.

I have the main head set up exactly as you said, and still have too much play. Im afraid that if I tighten the screws anymore, I might be in bad shape.

Problem fixed. I ended up replacing the 0.5MM shim with a 80MM shim, and used the 1MM shim on the outside of the blade grips. No play, No binding.
