If you intend to get into 3D by all means hover at 3/4 stick. To keep round numbers, consider that you have +- 9 degrees of pitch. If you hover mid stick at six degrees that leaves only three degrees from mid stick to full positive pitch. You will move your stick half its range for only three degrees. From mid sick to full negative pitch you will have 15 degrees. When you get into 3D you will spend nearly half your time in the negative pitch range and having to move your pitch 15 degrees with only a few degrees of stick travel is very difficult. Having said that, while you are learning you do not want much negative pitch. Set up you normal curve with just a degree or two negative and adjust your throttle curve accordingly.
